    help!!

A friend downloaded an app called Imaging Theme from the Blackberry App world yesterday on my Blackberry Curve. My phone worked fine for a bit but later in the day this message kept coming up: "Uncaught exception: net.rim.device.api.system.Controlled AccessException". I couldn't do anything with my phone at all. So I removed the battery, put it back, the message disappeared and my phone worked for a bit. Then it kept doing that - but now the message doesn't go away at all and I cannot do a thing with my phone! I was able to get in yesterday and uninstall the app, but then my phone locked up again. I can't get in to change permissions (I've read that on some sites with this error) and my phone is basically useless! HELP!!! PLEASE!!

You might need to reload you OS, BUT first lets try this.... Lets make sure you got rid of that theme. We will boot the Berry in to safemode and then go to the default theme and also delete the downloaded theme. OK to boot in to safemode, take out the battery, and then when you put it back in hold down the back button (keep holding) while the berry boots up. This will make your berry go in to safe mode. Then, go to Options, then Themes, then select the Default Zen theme. Then go to Options, Advanced (or 3rd Party Apps if you are on 5.0), and delete the app itself, select the app, then press the BB (or menu) button and select delete. Then battery pull again to reboot and go back to regular mode. If THAT does not fix it then we'll have to have you reload your OS.

Thank you for your reply! I did as you said and yes, the app was still there. So I deleted it, took out the battery, put it back in and I'm still getting the error message! This is so frustrating! How do I reload the OS?

Willing to lose everything? Do you have a backup of your data? I think we are going to need to wipe your berry and then reload your OS, and we can reload your contacts and schedule from a backup, IF you made one recently, OR we may be able to make one before we get started. I will subscribe to this thread, as soon as you respond I will try to get back to help you.

Ok lets try to do a backup first can you get your BB running? If so get it running and connect it to your PC and start up Desktop Manager which is the disk that came with your Berry, if you don't have if you can down load it here....

Then run the backup. After that we will proceed to the wipe and reinstall I am going to try to find a thread with good step by step instructions. Probably from Crackberry.com (I looked around here and did not find what I wanted)

Ok, I think the easiest thing to do would be to have you use BBSAK to wipe the BB, this is a program that automates the process, OR we can do it manually in a command box, but I think BBSAK will be easier for you. Also you will need to download and install the latest OS for your BB to your computer, so after we wipe your berry we can use Desktop Manager or App loader to load the OS on to your berry. Here's a good tutorial on BBSAK with links...

The Curve 8330 and I'm in Canada - using SaskTel. I think I will wait until tomorrow now to go ahead with this in case it takes a while. I really appreciate all your help - thanks!
