Did you turn on your audio boost????

Go into your media, then options, and turn on audio boost.

I dont think the player makes much difference I have tried 3 different media players and havent noticed any difference in max volume. Unless there is one with Gain or an eq with it.
It takes many professionals versed in many different area's to help the masses, I am just a single drop in that pool.

Take the bus. It might not be so noisy.

if you dont have audio boost option > then upgrade your devices OS. the media player on newer OSs is much better (includes audio boost and predefined equalizer settings, i.e. rock, hip hop, jazz, etc..)

I don't have an issue with max volume when i'm on the train, maybe it is your headphones (then again I have the newer OS with audio boost and eq.) .

In ear headphones that seal off around your ear may help out though. the ones that come with blackberries are blaah..Sony has a fairly cheap model called the "fontopia"

    best of luck..

Yea the volume on the loudest setting is too loud for me, I can only imagine my ear drums after auto boost.
