    Event Log on 8330

Hello all. I was curious what the "Event Log"( brought up by Alt+LGLG shortcut) function is (besides the obvious). I have deleted the logs numerous times and did not see any impact on overall functionlity. I want to avoid changing any of the options in the menu brought up in the Event Log if there is a dependency that will mess up my OS or Back ups. Will someone please share their thoughs or experience? Thanks as always.
Oh yes I am still using Sprints 4.3 OS.

It is mainly for troubleshooting purposes. Deleting teh log will not cause harm and also altering what events are logged will not harm anything. You may want to re-enable the logging if you start having troubles just so you can view it for errors. But it would not effect your backups or anything else

Just go into the event log viewer (alt»LGLG). Select the options. A list of all of your applications should appear with a selection icon with a check next to each. Click on the check and deselect all of the apps that where previously checked. Save and you should be set. Let me know if that does it for you.

the log is for bes users . it allows the admins to follow usage and such. it logs error and other info . its a waste of memory when using bis and un checking the boxes saves memory .

People hide it or clear it religiously, convinced it saves them tons of memory. I gave up trying to convince them otherwise. But on both my BBs the even log never shows more than about 8 hrs worth of events and deleting the logs shows very little increase in memory, certainly not enough to make a difference in how the BB performs. I haven't cleared the event log in months on either BB. I just checked my 8330 and the oldest event shown is from 5 hrs ago.

Azstar hit the nail on the head. The amount of memory used is not significant and will not effect overall performance. The other comments regarding the use of the log for trouble shooting is right on as well. I am trying to recall where I read an article addressing this subject and will post a link when I find it but taking the time is not really worth it. The only other use for this would not be something we Pinstackers would be involved in.....
