Edge vs WiFi (UMA) Speed
I connected my phone to my personal home router. From what I can tell for browsing online, it doesn't seem any faster than using Edge. I suppose there might be a slight difference, but I can't tell. Is online browsing supposed to be faster via wifi?
I know the benefit is you can receive data while on a call, but that's not a concern. And my data is unlimited so that's not a concern either. I'm just wondering if I should be expecting a difference with browsing speed.
i don't seem to notice much of a difference either.
my thumbs hurt.......
Are you sure you're using the HotSpot browser?
strange...I see a pretty big difference...
So do I....

I notice a huge difference as well.~via smartphone~
Hmm, guess I'll do some testing this weekend.
I have it set to Internet Browser. Do I need to change it everytime I connect via wifi to the hotspot browser?

Yes, you can have it default to hotspot and if you don't have WiFi it should got to the other browser then.

When your surrounded by the Palm Pre, Iphone 3gs and T-mobile mytouch (G2) makes me wonder about blackberry.
I notice a huge difference as well. Not just in the browser but Google Maps, Viigo and most applications I have installed that use Data.
Ok, I think you are all right. I think it was a perception issue on my part. Plus some other external factors.
My thinking was that it would be blazing fast over wifi and I wouldn't even see the "Requesting..." and "Loading data..." status bar at the bottom. By seeing that staus bar, I just made the assumption the data stream was just as slow as Edge. So I downlaoded some ringtones and .3gp videos over Edge and wifi, and did find it was much faster over wifi.
The external factors were that I wasn't using the Hotspot browser and that my wifi connection strength was not always at the maximum (depending where I was in the house).
Thanks to everyone for their feedback. I'll stay connected on wifi while I'm at home :-).
What's the Hotspot browser? Is that the Globe icon or the Tmobile icon?
BB Pearl, Seidio rubberized case.
Niether...the Hotspot browser is a setting you change in your Internet settings. The icons you are talking about are application shortcuts. When I am home (have WiFi), I switch to Hotspot browser setting so that my 8900 uses my WiFi connection instead of EDGE or GSM.
