Desktop Manager - I want to strangle it

Why cant this phone sync with my outlook like my old nokia?

First off, I make a change on my outlook calendar and it doesnt sync with the phone. I make the same change with my phone and it doesnt sync with outlook. I have it set to sync in both directions but to no avail.

Secondly I realize that I keep losing contacts. When I first synced up with my phone, it loaded ALL my contacts into it. I dont want all my contacts on my phone so I deleted them out of there. Turns out, it deleted it from outlook too. That pissed me off. However, when I add a contact to my phone, it doesnt want to add it to my outlook. Again, both are set to sync both ways.

I dont get it. Oh yeah, everytime I sync up, it wants to load in all my calendar items again. So when I hit accept, all these alerts chime telling me when theres a birthday this week or some anniversary. WTF?

    Try re-sending your service books.

Use the "personal email set-up" icon and log on to BIS. You can send the service books from there. The proper service books are required for your device to work properly. Myself and several others had that same problem you are having and re-sending the service books fixed it.

If you have a blackberry data plan. Go and create an account, you get a free blackberry email address with the plan...or, just go and create an account, don't worry about the email, and re-send the service books...Not sure it will work, but you can try it.

I didn't think you need service books to sync your address book but I could be wrong.

This is a known problem with the Curve and the 8830 smart phones. There is a work around in this thread, Old Pro needs Help Trouble shooting Curve/Calendar Problem. Or you can get it directly from the horses mouth, go to
BlackBerry Technical Support Center and search for KB13330.

    Hope this helps.

If all you want to do is sync the phone, you don't need an email account associated with it.

Im confused. Either way, I have a contact on my phone that wont go onto my outlook on the computer and the same goes with some events I put in the calendar. Supposed to sync both ways, it doesnt. This is worthless if I can only put new stuff in my computer.

I am wondering if your problem is not with the device, but with Desktop Manager instead. Did you install it using the CD that came with the BB or did you download it from the software section of blackberry.com? I know recent device CD's have many problems with them.

I'm not sure the these are not separate problems. 1 with the address book and the other involving the known problem with the calendar. Try this, in your sync setting only check the contacts, so that it's only trying to sync contacts. Add a fictitious contact in your BB address book and attempt a sync. Let us know the results.

I dont know what changed but since I got my new phone, everything is syncing back and forth correctly. Im never going to make any changes to how it syncs just in case I screw something up. Very happy with things now.
