I think you are right... and this one seems harder to push without pushing the buttons beside it.

Idefinatly feel the ball could be better. There needs to be less of a rattle (looseness) and the track ball needs to have a better toggle push feel. It fairly non exisitent.

The trackball on my 8300 rolls very smoothly while on my new 8310, there is definitely more resistance.

    Re: Curve owners... (Trackball Question)

i had a pearl once and the ball was a hole lot smoother than the one on the curve. i think this was because they had a lot less space to make the mechanism fit and smaller parts were used.. I think there was an issue with the ball turning black on the pearl from finger residue and clocking up the works. this is probably why they made the one on the curve more free.

No, the only BB where you can change the color is the Pearl. Cause the 8100 has the colored LEDs.

    Re: Curve owners... (Trackball Question)

My experience is that the trackball on the three Pearls I have had (one I kept) has been rather inconsistent and not that great. There has been some erratic behavior with them. Not a lot but nonetheless it occurs at the worst times. I've simply been living with it.

The trackball experience on my 8800 and two 8300's is about the same.

The trackball experience on my new 8310 is really improved. This is the first trackball that I'm really enjoying as it's accurate, never deviates, and rolls very smoothly. I have always enjoyed trackballs on computers but initially was bothered by the very small size of them on the BlackBerrys. When I purchased both the first generation Pearl and 8800 I was less than thrilled with them.

Thankfully that has all changed with the newest models. Now for the very first time, I actually like the trackball better than the side mounted scroll wheel.

So, like so many other tech products, the second generation reveals improvements that in this case are quite beneficial and certainly add to the enjoyment of using the device.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~Mine feels like there is a detent type roller in it. The pearl trackball is smoother and tighter in the socket. Ijust got my Curve (Black Friday Sale) last week and got my son a Pearl at the same time. My 8700 seems sturdier than the Curve. Time will tell.

    Re: Curve owners... (Trackball Question)

There's definitely a big difference with the pearl's trackball and the Curve 8320. Pearl is more sturdy, I like the pearl's sturdy feeling . I'll go to a tmobile store to check out some of their curve to compare more. My curve needs a lot of pressure just to feel the click.

    Re: Curve owners... (Trackball Question)

I went to a tmobile store earlier and just found out that the pale gold that I tested was more sturdier than my titanim curve. Those who reported a less sturdy track ball are you all using titanium? Maybe the pale gold is more sturdier than the titanium, but ill definitely return my curve for a replacement.
