Is it just my Curve. Or does the Trackball on the Pearl feel more sturdy (better build quality) than the Curve's?

    Re: Curve owners... (Trackball Question)

i think its more an issue of how the track ball "rolls". My brother has a Pearl and the action of the track ball seams smoother than that of my curve.....

it seems looser, and more sensitive. I haven't played with the sensitivity settings, but I think the feeling is more of a tactile difference.
In short. The Pearl's ball is definitly sturdier

I defintitely have noticed a difference. When I press it in, the you can see my screen is feeling the pressure. I think they crammmed the assembly in there too tight trying to make it more flush. It doesn't stick out like on the Pearl.

I agree hayden. Was using hubby's pearl last night to test themes and made the comment that his pearl was quieter than mine when scrolling. Does seem *sturdier*

Using my Pearl right now, and the difference is like night and day. With the Pearl, there's an obvious "click" when the trackball is depressed. With the Curve, nothing. Also, the scrolling is so misch more responsive and smooth. The Curve's scrolling seems like my Pearl when I was still running the original OS. Maybe, with a few OS upgrades, the scrolling on the Curve will get better.

your very right. the trackball on the curve seems cheap and hollow while the one on the Pearl feels the exact opposite.

    Re: Curve owners... (Trackball Question)

Apparently I'm in the minority...but I've had an 8800, a pearl and now the Curve...and the trackball on my Curve seems to be just right. Not too light, not too hard. I messed around with sensitivity a bit, but wound up putting it back to the defaults. My trackball doesn't feel "light" or "hollow" or overly loose - there's enough resistance and a positive "click" sensation as I press it - but it's not so hard to press so it's annoying for repeated use. Sounds like I'm the exception, though, in this thread!

Agree with Els718/Cherri/Hayden etc - i have had 3 pearls and 2 curves and the Curve trackball is inferior.

    Re: Curve owners... (Trackball Question)

I recently went through 3 Curve's (had a battery issue, and tried replacements), and the trackballs on each Curve felt very different from the next. I actually chose to stay with the 2nd 8300 I got, because of the trackball. I like the looser feeling, and the physical "click" feeling when selecting things. The other BB's trackballs felt like they were soaked in molasses prior to being assembled. They were stiff and way more sturdy...actually too sturdy imo. Anyway, yea...no comparison between Pearls and Curve's...but I notieced a wide variety in trackball quality between Curve's. My two cents...

    Total opposite, IMO.

I just came from a Pearl. I liked it except for the cheesy trackball. It felt too loose and it rattled. Once while I was driving (yeah, I know), even had someone on the other end of the phone call ask what that ticking noise was...

The cs rep at the store checked like 4-5 Pearls they had and they all felt the same plus the rattle. He thought the trackball assembly on the new AT&T branded Pearls are little different from the old Cingular ones, and maybe the reason for this.

So, I got my hands on the Curve while I was there, and it instantly felt much more solid in construction overall than the Pearl -- especially the trackball.

My previous BB was the 8800 and I kinda noticed that its more sturdy than the one of the curve.

I had a Pearl previously and I don't really notice any difference to the Curve.
