3G is essential for those that tether to a notebook

Nobody is knocking the 3G networks. Its just that they're still unreliable. By the end of Q2 or Q3 '09 you're going to see mostly 3G phones. Companies are still working on them. So as of right now don't go all nuts about a 3G phone. 'Cause a GSM/EDGE device will do the work (in the meantime).

And let's not forget about the wifi.. I use wifi for surfing and stuff and it is faster than edge. So if wifi is on the 8900, I am getting one for sure! I read here that 3G drains the battery, not sure if that is true or not.

Yes. It does drain the battery. They have to figure that out also. With in a few months they'll release a brand new battery that will have a long enough life cycle running on 3G.
About the 8900 having Wifi.. I'm not completely sure as I haven't looked at the specs in quite some time. My guess is that it will have Wifi I could be wrong. Someone clarify this for us, please.

I think it will have wifi and GPS....for me personally, I only use Wifi sometimes and GPS I have in my car. The improvements I'd like to see are in the screen, speed, and multimedia dept. and it seems like that's what it will be improved in the 8900. Also, I don't mind having 3G, but not a must have for me.

hmm just waiting for news on the releases for t-mo. Sounds like an amazing phone. Wifi or 3g is a must. Im thinking about tethering to my notebook now so can have internet everywhere instead of paying a $60 monthly fee for verizon or at&t wireless cards. Gps......eh. Could just buy a gps puck and connect it with google maps. But cant wait for this phone to come out. Keep us updated

    Both, probably Tmobile first though.

my guess is that AT&T will have the 8900 for black friday. (Nov. 28th)
    1. it is a consumer based blackberry
    2. the 83xx blackberries are very cheap right now at the AT&T stores. ($79 w/ 2yc)
    3. waiting until after x-mas makes no sense from a marketing perspective.

I dn't think ATT will release a 2g phone now. The 8900 is 2g. Tmob is a 2g network for most of us.

It just seems like ATT wouldnt rush the release of the 8900 this much. There hasnt really been any commercial or advertising yet. Maybe they will try for late december but it seems unrealistic to think it would be in the next 2 weeks. Trust me Ive got my fingers crossed too

t-mobile isn't getting the 8900 until Jan/Feb. at&t is pushing for a early Dec release. they are all boxed up and ready to go. just because it's not a 3G device doesn't mean it won't sell like the first curve. the next 8900 series, most likely the 8910/8920 series will have 3G bands. not expected until Q3/Q4 of next year.
