How do I copy all me numbers to the sim address book- and then can I transfer them to the phones address book? After the switch device issue, I don't want to risk another problem!!!

Your best bet is to do a selective restore as was mentioned in the other post. To do that you go to backup/restore and click on advanced. There you can select which database to move over. You can also figure out which one is causing your error if it pops up again.

i know you can copy all sim contacts to the bb address book at one time but i dont think you can the other way around.

what i would suggest is downloading your contacts through outlook express so that you can load them all back onto your phone.

Outlook express won't sync with BB's unless there has been an update I missed.

The backup gets saved whereever you tell it to. A backup is written for restoring back to blackberry devices and not designed to sync with other software. Once you have backed up your original device, plug your new one in and start up backup/restore process again. This time click on Advanced and click on file-->open to select the backup you wish to use for selecting the info you want to restore.
