    Can someone explain the purpose of the "content protection" in the sucurity options? Is it imporatn to keep this settting enabled?

    Funny you ask. I have corp BB and I asked the same thing to the BES admin. He could not provide me with a straight answer.

    "This option encrypts data stored locally on the BlackBerry smartphone. When you unlock the BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry smartphone goes through a process of decrypting the data so you are able to view the contents." from RIM.

    also " If you have turned on content protection, the process for deleting all the data on the BlackBerry device can take up to an hour to complete." just an FYI.

    Content Protection is one further step in protection for the data contained on a BB, in case of loss or theft. Some companies' security policies require it in addition to password protection on Laptops and other portable devices.
