    Compact DVD file conversion options??

I converted a DVD into an .avi file to play on my Blackberry. The file however is very large, over 8 gig. Is there a "tighter" conversion method? If I converted it into an MP4 for instance, would the file turn out smaller? Any idea's??

Its been awhile since since I have converted a dvd to avi but if memory serves me right u need to convert to divx or xvid which will drop it down to like 700 megs then u can convert that to a bb format. I am sure there are programs that let u go straight from dvd to bb format but I like max control. I have conair on my curve now and it is 188 megs in size with max quality on video.

    This is what I use:

i just download and used Super a video converter(does all kinds of video convertions)

    http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html

these are my specs when converting for my 8900

    1. avi
    2. DIVX
    3. MP3

    4. 480x360
    5. 16:6 or 4:3(I prefer 16:9 then if you're converting a widescreen video/movie it won't look stratched.)
    6. 29.97fps
    7. 576 bitrate kbps
    8. sample freq 48000
    9. Channels 2
    10. bitrate kbps 96/128

drag and drop any video file you want to convert wait and BAM you have a converted video.

if you have a better way please post on.

There's a really cool software I use... Its called free viceo converter. Got it from download.com

It can do a load of different formats, and you can lower the video stream bitrate, the frames, resolution, audio sttings etc to reduce size and still hold on to a decent amout of quality...

I've managed to convert some files at almost 300 frames a second with some pretty decent avi settings...

These settings work great. The only thing I can't do is manually forward the video. It keeps jumping back to the beginning.
