    Question Broken Keypad?

    I am using a Blackberry 8320 on T-Mobile.
My keypad doesn't respond like its locked, but it shows that it isn't.

Doing my own troubleshooting, the only thing I can do is scroll through menu options with the trackball. Visually, I can see that the highlighted option changes, but when I click, nothing happens. The side convenience keys, menu, escape, volume keys and mute do nothing. I have tried several battery pulls, a shortcut key reboot (alt+right shift+del) and reinstallation of the OS (4.2.2.184) and still have the problem... For the most part, my Blackberry looks like it's turned off cause the backlight goes out due to lack of activity. The only time I can see the screen is by un/plugging it in to charge to light up the screen.

So anyways, here I am with what I assume is a hardware issue? I've only had the 8320 for a little over a month now. Is this something thats covered under warranty, insurance through T-Mobile? I need my Blackberry fix... =)

Did anything happen to it before this happened. Because this is the exact same thing, and I've had mine for a tad over a month. Surely it's the hardware issue.

Nope. I was at work when checked my Blackberry and I noticed the screen was black. Initially I thought it was turned off somehow and I couldn't use the power button so that's when I tried the battery pull. From there, I realized my keypad wasn't working when it booted up.

Ok, then maybe we can get them fixed through warranty. I had rolled over on top of mine in bed, but it's a soft surface, and had did it several times before... yea I sleep w/my blackberry. It's my alarm clock. I'm relieved to find someone else has this same problem, and nothing happened to theirs. I didn't want to pay for another phone.

Yeah, I feel your pain. Just tried a OS downgrade to 4.2.2.180 (T-Mobile supported OS) and still no luck with it. Keyboard seems to still be locked.

I had same issue and was pissed and ready to throw phone at 611 support but I decided to wipe device to see if it would fix it. And it worked to fix everything. Try that but make sure to save everything first

Let me know how it works

Just thought I'd post an update. Wiped my 8320 with JL_Cmder and reinstalled the OS. No help in resolving the issue so gonna visit T-Mobile in the morning...

Update: Woke up this morning and it's fixed. Don't know how or why, but my prayers to the Blackberry gods have been answered. If only OS 4.5 would be released...

    Thumbs down

seems like it happened again. this time i've kinda figured it out.
when i have the phone in my pocket, it seems to lock up again.
for now, i think its either some loose connection to the keypad...
or the keys are stuck and therefore, prevent me from using it.

regardless, it happens when its in my pocket (locked / unlocked)
for some reason, the letters u and o are often typed into the BB.
this leads me to believe that the problem is due to stuck keys...
unfortunately, each key clicks when i press them individually.

also, i can light up the screen if i press down on several keys...
i no longer need to resort to plug/unplugging it to light up the lcd
this leads me to conclude its an electrical issue with hardware.

either way, i'll be taking it in the morning to T-Mobile for replacement.
my conclusion is that its obviously broken or defective in some way.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ this sounds like it must suck! I would def. Just save myself the hassle and send into warrenty exchange and get a brand new and working curve. This is def. Something that needs replacing....
