blackberry curve 8310 keeps restarting by itself or freezing up

    hi

i recently purchased an unlocked ATT branded 8310, and i am currently using it for t-mobile w/ the BIS plan.

the phone seems to randomly freeze up sometimes....or restart itself (black screen, blinking red LED, and then the hourglass turns and the phone eventually loads up).

ive tried hardresetting, wiping via JL_cmder and reinstalling the latest OS...and nothing....

anyone have a fix for this?

If you have tried reinstalling/updating the OS and that did not correct your issue it SOUNDS hardware related. If you have any recourse with the seller I would suggest you contact them at once and notify them of the issue.

    side pocket kid,

    Give this a try.

Use Desktop Manager 4.2 (SP2) and download 8310 handheld software.
When installed, connect your 8310 to your PC (or laptop).

First, backup your data (if needed). If not, then proceed.
Open Application Loader and re-installed the handheld software. Make sure you select "erase all application data". Then it will erase and re-install handheld software.

    This should work, I'm using an unlocked 8300 with t-mo. = )

    Hope this helps, good luck.

why device manager 4.2 (sp2) as opposed to 4.3? i think i have 4.2 installed, although i am not 100% sure...it came in the cd that was included w/ the phone.

    Any luck yet?

I, too, am having the exact same problem. I have reinstalled EVERYTHING several times - no change. I am using AT&T but that shouldn't matter. I agree that it sounds like a hardware issue...but here's MY issue with that...

If I call AT&T's warranty dept, they are more than happy to send me a replacement since I bought this less than three months ago. HOWEVER, they want to replace it with a refurbished phone. Um, NO. I paid $300+ for this stupid NEW Blackberry Curve...and I want a new one to replace it...not a refurbished one.

So, either way, I'm screwed...unless I can find a way to fix this one.

Please - anyone - any other ideas???

    Thanks

If you're having a the restart issue it could be a numerous bunch of things. My friend had this issue, and I asked him if he had a bunch of applications running in the background. Turns out he would never actually close the applications.

You may want to try wiping and the installing the OS again. Then just run it with out installing all the third party apps. Then you can start narrowing it down and trouble shoot which if any of the applications is causing it.

    Same problem here

I'm having the same problem. It seems that every so often, when I get a text message, right as it's about to vibrate and my indicator light goes on, the screen lights up and it is frozen. The only way I can get out of it is if I pull the battery.

Also, sometimes it just restarts and I don't know this has happened until I see the screen light up and the hour glass is up.

&&& sometimes (yeah, it is this annoying) I pick up my phone and the phone is completely off. Like, I have to press the end button to turn it on and it does a full restart.

Other than the text messaging thing, it doesn't happen so often. The last two happen rarely. The text is a once a week to three times a week kind of thing thanks to the large amount of texting I do.

The thing that sucks is that I don't know if anything can be resolved hardware wise. I bought the phone in March, but the screen broke (destroyed into pieces, same thing) and I opened it to replace it, so the warranty is void. I also updated the OS before ATT had an official one. Basically, warranty wise, I'm screwed.

My phone has been wiped clean and everything has been installed fresh and clean. This is credited to the massive fail on the behalf of a cheap usb cable during the OS upgrade. (Whoops)

The only other thing that it might be is that I have 3rd party apps. I have Beilks dream dictionary, keyboard locker, quickpull, tip calculator and 3jam. I never really used 3jam, though. After searching online, I've found that none of these apps cause this problems.

    Soooooo .. any ideas? :d

I know it sounds minor, but have you formatted your sd card for your device?

Welcome to PinStack! We're here to help!

Have you upgrade your OS recently? Have you tried inserting a new battery? Do you have a media card in the device?

Go to Options>Status and let us know what the File Free reading is.
