    Blackberry....broken....?

    Hello,
I'm having some trouble with my T-Mobile Blackberry Curve 8320.
The phone was accidentally dropped, and here's whats going on.

When I make or recieve a phone call, I cannot understand what the person is saying as it is pretty much muting the call back and forth.
Meaning, when they say a word I hear a letter, it mutes the next, I hear the next, it mutes the next, so on and so forth.
If I plug the handsfree headphones into the phone, EVERYTHING is FINE.
But if I put the phone on speaker - it doesn't work.
Also, the person on the OTHER line - talking to me, they have a hard time understanding me as well.
Up until today everything was FINE...
I can receive text messages, I can send them.
    I have all Wi-Fi working.
    I can receive phone calls.

When I go to media player and play a song, it plays the song through the cell phone's ear speaker PERFECTLY - yet through this same speaker the phone call is making the wierd noise.
It also plays it through the speakerphone PERFECTLY.

    This phone was dropped
Anybody have any idea what the problem could be, or is it just a matter of replacing a part?

Oh and I doubt it is anything like the antenna because I can receive & send text messages, and when I plug in the handsfree headset the phone call is FINE and the persons voice I can understand clearly.
It can't be the speakers because both work ( earphone & speakerphone ) when playing a song in the media player.

    Help please! Thanks!

    Oh and also,
what I noticed is that during the call the Volume level seems to be going up and down - meaning during the call where it shows how many bars of volume you have, it seems to be changing....why could that be?

Thanks! I appreciate it VERY greatly!

I would suggest a battery pull along with reseating your sim card, making sure that it has good contact with the copper connectors.

Sounds to me like the speaker and the microphone are pooched. You are going to need to take it to a service depot and have it checked.

Sorry to say, unless you want to use Bluetooth or a wired headset, you are either going to have to repair or replace the phone.

Have you done anything other than drop the phone? Installed a new application? Loaded a new OS?

Nothing was done besides dropping the phone.

Like I said earlier, its NOT the speaker because I can hear music and vids PERFECTLY through that SAME speaker.
I just can't with phone calls.

I dont think it is a hardware problem as the OP stated that the sound comes through when playng media, and not during a call.

I'm not sure if there is a possibilty of something like the antenna, etc. etc. causing the problem.

Try the batt pull and reseating sim card, and if that doesnt solve the problem, revert to the trusty os wipe and reload.

I strongly doubt its the OS or anything like that. It's a new phone, and everything was working 100% right before it was dropped - a drop wouldn't effect the software, it affects the hardware.

    1. Are you having problems hearing the earpiece speaker or the loud speaker?
    2. Are you playing music through the earpiece speaker or loud speaker?

    They are both separate speakers.

    1. I am having problems playing through BOTH the earpiece speaker AND the loud speaker.

    2. Media is playing PERFECTLY and crystal clear through BOTH speakers.

I see, I have a feeling that a specific connection has been damaged. At this point, I would recommend a new sim card, or an OS wipe. I know it seems like a long shot, but you should exhaust all options before taking that thing apart or sending it in.

Worst come to worst, I would take it apart and see if anything is loose.

It sounds like something is loose because I just plugged in the headphones (handsfree)
and ONLY the RIGHT headphone worked.
tried the same thing with a DIFFERENT pair of headphones that were 100% fully functional,
    ONLY right headphone worked.
I'm thinking something is going on where one side works and the other doesnt.
