It's not bad to pull out with the power on, but as I said before RIM - the people who make BlackBerry, recommend that you reset it with it powered down.

I use soft reset as linked above. Great app and its free.

What do you mean by lag? Is it pausing and the hourglass is coming on a lot? If so, what apps do you have running in the background?

Like any other device, phone, computer, or whatever, the more you have running the more time it takes the processor to do its thing. Some themes can cause the device to lag. If the theme is using pictures that have a higher resoluton than the device screen it takes more time for them to load than they should take.

That sounds like you have something hogging memory..... Go to your application screen and click the menu button. Go down to Swith Applications.

    What applications are running?

Yes, the hourglass while it is booting or starting up is totally normal.

I recommend reading through some of the threads on here and you'll learn a lot of things
about your BB you never knew.
Lots of info and lots of people to help. Enjoy.

Hourglass too long on open apps is not good. If it isn't memory like sirthinks said, we might need to get your OS upgraded.
For now - let's get you familiar with your bb since it's your first day

From your main screen (home screen) click on the menu button. That will take you to your applications screen.

Then click on the menu button again. Switch Applications is the bottom menu item.

Is it a new Blackberry, or did you inherit it from someone else? I only ask because if you got it from someone else they may have applications loaded on it that are using lots of memory. We can troubleshoot it easily enough as most of know which apps are memory pigs.
