Sure, who wouldn't, but it all boils down to who's been naughty or nice. If you've been nice you might get it, but if you've been naughty probably not. I hope this information has helped, good luck.

Not sure you would want to paint it. It would eventually start to flake off. Maybe find an object off the same size? The material has to be pretty close too. Since the trackball needs to grp in the ridges that are in the assembly.
Also the LED would be pointless if it was solid black.

    Just my thoughts.

I agree that painting it black kills the functionality of the light underneath... but, to each his/her own...

You could always carefully use a Sharpie... black, of course

I've actually been wondering about the possibility of a black trackball as well (or something darker grey for my titanium curve like on the sidekick). I don't think I'd mind losing the backlighting. But I'm not comfortable painting the OEM ball.

just wait a few months...your trackball will be so dark from dirt you won't need to color it

I used a black sharpy on the wheel of my 8700g. Not so impressive.

the ball is made of nylon plastic and it can be dyed. Just get a box of RIT Dye (color of your choice) and and follow the instruction on the box

Hmmm. What about a stainless steel ball bearing. That would be pretty bling. And they come in all sizes, so I would just have to bust out my digital calipers and measure the curve's trackball....

I think a ball bearing would interfere with the directional rollers, I think the rollers are magnetic, so the cursor won't know which way to go when u spin the ball

the ball bearing would be too smooth you need something to grip the little ridges on the rollers. Wouldn't really matter if it was metal...as long as the sensors on the BB can tell which way the magnets are rolling you'll be ok.
