    BIS Account Needed?

I'm an individual (not enterprise) user, email via gmail acct, usuallly accessed from desktop using Outlook/pop-smtp mail. Only gmail/pop on my BB, have no BIS or Verizon email accts. Desktop Outlook configured to not leave retrieved messages on server....

    1. What am I missing by having no BIS acct?

    2. Am happy exc. emails sent from desktop appear on BB. Saw posts here on how to stop this by setting filter in BIS but that doesn't seem to apply to me. Given my setup, why are those sent mails appearing on BB at all? how do I stop them?

There's a reason for that. It cuts down drastically on the number of spammers that post links to spam or porn sites. It also saves us mods a ton of time from chasing down links. I added the link for you.

In the Verizon store with the salesperson's help. We did the setup wizard and just entered the data for the gmail account. I explained that I did not want a mailbox on verizon.net because I already had an email acct and they didn't give me one.

But my problem is that the only email account I have is the gmail (well, I also have one with ATT Business but that isn't on either my BB or my desktop and is set to forward everything to gmail). I do not have email accounts either on BIS or Verizon and therefore I can't log onto either one. My account with Verizon gives me billing, access to device updates, etc., but no email.

OK, if you set up the gmail to be pushed to your device using the set-up wizard on the BB then you do have BIS. That is your data plan through Verizon. You do not need to create or use an @verizon.blackberry.net address to have and use BIS. Without BIS or BES you could not get email at all on your BB.

So you should be able to log in to your carrier BIS page through the BB using the email setup icon and once you have created a user name and password you can log on to the site via your PC and then follow the instructions in the link from acascio5 for creating a filter.

There's no such icon on my BB, just an icon for gmail. The only place I find email setup is in the Setup Wizard...and that option is only to set up a BES account. What now?

I'm not sure why you don't have the icon. Check to make sure it's not hidden. Also, for gmail, does your icon look like the gmail icon or is it an envelope? Just trying to figure out if you downloaded the gmail app or if you are using push email. If you didn't download the gmail app and the icon is not hidden, I suggest you call verizon and explain the situation to them, perhaps you are missing a service book, and without a login to the verizon BIS page, you can't re-send the service books yourself.

OK, I got the email setup icon back after uninstalling/reinstalling a pgm that was giving me trouble. However, when I go into setup, the only relevant options are to add another email acct or create a BB email account. Again, I don't want another email acct, BB or otherwise, just want to stop emails I send from my desktop from showing up on the BB.

Maybe we're on the wrong track here. I checked Options/Advanced Options/Host Routing Table, the only entries listed are Verizon. Doesn't that mean that my emails to/from the BB are being handled by Verizon, not BIS? Logged into my VZW acct but found nothing re email or filtering (don't have an email acct there either, don't want one).

FWIW I tried getting onto BIS from my desktop, but the site asked me to log in with the BB's PIN (no problem) but also its ENS. Don't even know what ENS is, exc. the site says it's on the box and that's long since gone  Anywhere to find it in the BB?

OK, problem solved and sorry for the confusion. Once I got the Email Setup icon back, I found I had a no-PW acct on BIS... went ahead and created a UID/PW for it. Having done that, I followed the links in previous messages to log into BIS/Verizon with my desktop. Once I did, I found my linked gmail acct as the only email acct (as it should have been) and added the filter described (blocking my own sent msgs from desktop being sent to BB).

Was confused because wanted like heck to avoid creating yet another email acct, didn't realize that BIS "knew" my gmail acct and didn't need/want another one.
