Question Battery consumption of GPS in 8310

    Hi GPSers,

does anybody know, how to turn off the Curve's GPS?
If not needed, I would like to, to expand battery durability.

I could not find an appropriate Option in settings. Or is there a hotkey for this purpose?

    Thanks,
    BBhla

not sure if you can turn it off...

i don't think that it is running in the background and if so, not enough to drain your battery.

There is no option to "turn the gps off", however as long as you actually exit(not just send it to the backgroud) the appliacation that is using the gps that will actually disable the gps until you start an application that can use it again. Basically it is automatic. I highly suggest that you exit the app when not using it as the GPS is a huge drain on the battery life. If possible, I suggest using a car charger for your 8310 when using the GPS if possible, this will also keep the backlight on constantly as well.

My 8310 is plugged into my car charger all the time since I'm on the road a lot and the back light doesn't stay on constantly. If I'm running Telenav and have the backlight set to stay on all the time then it does but other then that it doesn't.

Hmmm, maybe the backlight thing is application specific, I know it does it with Amaze. Either way, you're better off using the GPS with a car charger.

    Hi iridemybike,

    thanks for Your reply,

i really hope, that it turns off "automatically".
I already think about changing my 8310 into a 8300 to suffer less from battery drain.
The BB-built-in GPS feature is fun but in fact I use my car's built-in navi.

It does turn off automatically. Just make sure you actually close the map application and not just send it to the background. I usually end a 16 hour day at about 40 - 50 percent remaining with heavy use all day long. That's without any GPS applications running.
