    Backup and Restore

I currently have the Pearl and am getting the Curve later today. I would like to backup my current Pearl and restore my emails, text messages, saved messages, etc onto the Curve. Is that possible with Desktop Manager?

    Re: Backup and Restore

Sure is Vanilla... connect your Pearl and open the DM... do Backup and remember where you filed it on your computer...

Later, connect your Curve and do a restore from that same file... the DM will ask you if you recognize that the PIN number is different on your Curve and you are restoring to a different device... click yes or ok, and Viola...

All should sync right over with the exception of OTA dloaded apps... Also, if you are BES you will have to get the new Curve activated for Enterprise as well...

I just did all of this 2 weeks ago at launch... pretty seamless...

    Best,

using the 4.2 desktop manager i was able to use the switch device setting on the desktop manger to move from a 8700 to a 8800. I would think it would do the same in this case.

can't see why not. i don't have an 8300, but the dm backups and restores in ipd format. so as long as dm can read your 8100 ipd file, it should be able to restore from it to your 8300.

edit: i gotta learn to type faster! you guys beat me to it!

    Re: Backup and Restore

In the desktop manager, there is a feature called Swap device created specifically for this. It controls the process of backing up the old and loading the new. Just double click on Swap Device and follow the instructions. Be patient though the process can be slow.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Backup and Restore

an easier way instead of backup/restore is to use the "Switch Device" option in Desktop Manager.. it will do the same thing plus transfer over the applications you have added to the Pearl over time.

edit: lol yeah you guys are fast on the keyboard this morning ;-)

congrats on the Curve, and remember to do the Setup Wizard (don't skip it). It will delete the extra languages from the Curve for you.

Be careful with doing the switch device. When I got my Curve I did this, but found that Spellchecker was missing from my curve. It took a while for me and the BB tech person to figure it out and get everything back to normal.

I used it also, and it worked just fine on my pearl to Curve switch. Was that a 3rd party spell checker by chance? My built in spell checker works fine
