Does Desktop Manager recognize that your device is connected?
What OS is currently installed on your device?
Are you positive that the OS you downloaded is for the 8310 and not a different 83xx device?

Before you do that try doing a search on your pc for another vendor file. Search hidden files and all.

When you say another vendor file, what exactly fo you mean? Because I have installed the 4.5, and replaced the vendor.xml with the original one that I deleted (went to recycle bin and restored it) but that didn't work. I'm pretty sure that's now what you're talking about, but it was an idea I tried.

You need to delete the vendor.xml file in order to load an OS on your device that is not from your original carrier. I expect that MC thought you might have missed a vendor file with all of the deleting and re-installing.

There are really only 3 things that cause you not to recognize a new operating system to install.

    1. The OS was downloaded but not installed on the desktop
    2. The vendor.xml file was not deleted
    3. The OS is not for the correct device.

When you go to Control Panel, Add Remove programs on your PC does the Blackberry Device Software show up on your list of installed programs?

i went through control panel, uninstalled every blackberry program, deleted every program file, restarted my computer, reinstalled the 4.3 DM and then the 4.5.81 os, deleted the vendor.xml file, restarted my computer, plugged in my phone and it still did not show that there was an update. i even went to the "about desktop manager" and it showed that i had the 4.5.81 for 8310 os downloaded and ready to use, but it still will not update.
sorry if i dont always answer all yalls questions. i try my best to tell every detail. and thank you for helping.

went through and did the exact same thing, but with the 4.6 DM, and still no luck. i did a search and there was no vendor.xml. when i still go to about desktop manager, it shows that i have a 4.5 blackberry 8310 os available, and when i go to about device, it says 4.2.2, but still not wanting to update.

GREAT NEWS!?!?!?! i finally got it to work.
idk what it was, but the computer i have been trying to do everything on is on windows vista, so i decided to try and see if it would make a difference on my other computer that has windows 98, and everything worked like a charm. idk what makes the difference between the two, but on 98 i didn't have any problems, and everything went smoothly. i just finished loading the rogers 4.5.102 (apps 4.5.81) and its now booting up.

    thank you sooooooooooooo much guys.

P.S. Don't stay up all night playing with it like I did.
