Any one have anything to say about the new 8520?

I know it's a new phone, but some one must have something to talk about the 8520.

I'm pretty impressed with it. Yes, it's a bit basic or downgrade from the 8900, but the trackpad is just incredible.

Size, weight, rubber body is perfect. The display and camera is a bit retro, but the overall fell is very satisfying.

Lets hear your point of views on this people.

    Take care.

I am excited about the trackpad coming out in new BB devices. I will not buy the Tour, Bold, etc because replacing the trackball is not as easy as it is on my 8330...I change mine every couple months because of my job, the trackball gets dirty very fast. I heard from a developer friend of mine who has a test 8520 that the trackpad works really well. I am curious to see if they develop any issues over time.

I love mine. Your right, very retro. Reminds me of my 8310.

The trackpad alone is so awesome. Such an improvement on the trackball. Just as sensitive, takes two minutes to get used to and you forget about how to use a trackball.

Nice entry level, "my first bb"

I like it generally. It does all of the basics very well and is excellent value. Music quality is shocking though.

Is the trackpad like a touchpad on a laptop or like that terrible little ball thingy in the middle of the old laptops keyboard?

Its like the new proper track/touch pads. It takes about 3-5 minutes to get used to cause of the size. But, when you get a hang of it, you really dont wanna go back to the track ball.

You're right. Ythere aren't really a lot of themes for it. I got mine two weeks ago and I'm loving it. I've had just about every every bb but this one is definitely my favorite. Its small, which is good for me with my tiny hands and I love the music. Its sooo much better!

How do you "click" the trackpad? Is it like a laptop where you tap it or do you press down?

Thumbs up I Like the 8520

I moved to an 8520 as a temporary measure until TMO comes out with a 3g berry. This is my 4th BB (7100, 8100, 8320 were my other BBs). Love the extra memory and the new OS. This is an incredible phone for the money. $48 at Walmart. The ONLY things I don't like as much as my 8320 is the smaller keyboard and the micro USB in place of mini USB. I was really fast on the 8320. I have good sized hands. The 8520 keys are closer together and the ALT key is a little awkward (farther down the phone, as the keyboard is more vertical).

The trackpad is awesome. Maybe a little harder to control than the trackball, but basically the same thing without a ball. Amazing piece of technology. I wish they came with a sleeve. I'm using my 8320 sleeve with it. It works, but more of the phone sticks out and the phone will fall out if you aren't careful.

RIM definitely knows what they are doing. The use of "bumps" for side buttons is genius. Nothing to or get filled with crud. Same thing for the trackpad. The only problem I see is that your typical rubber case might not work well with this phone.

The browser is "snappier" on the 8520 v. the 8320. I run Google Voice, Sensobi Contacts and Skydeck all resident in memory, and switch to Viigo often (but exit out fully), and I still get a full day battery life with 10-12 calls, 60 to 80 emails, 20 or so texts per day, web browsing, etc.

As much as like the phone, as soon as TMO comes out with a 3g BB, this will go to my daughter.

This is my 4th bb...I've had two 8700s and a 8320. I love it, I don't really mess with the camera so the fact that the camera is weak doesn't bother me. The OS is dope, and I like the sleekness of everything else. The trackpad is the best thing on here. If you want a sleek, yet basic blackberry this one is perfect. I work in the radio industry, so I use mines to stash music, write emails/texts, and extensive heavy use of Blackberry messenger. Great phone for people on the move all the time.
