i just signed up with them and got a curve. i heard their deductable for the curve is nuts if it does get messed up and you could just buy another.

My opinion on this is the following:

I do not have insurance because they usually give you a refurbished phone, not a new one.

If i get a replacement for a phone that gets damaged in any way i like to know that it is new and not used and cleaned up to make it appear new.

Besides, i usually change phones or upgrade to a newer model of my current phone at least once every year or so. Or if i really like the current phone and it is in good operation i would buy a new housing or just buy the same phone. eBay is awesome by the way. lol

IMO the insurance is too pricey and the deductible too high for a phone you can replace for $250 used. And in a pinch you can get a pre-owned 8100 now for close to $100. You have a 1 year mfg warranty if you bought it new and if you are tough on phones invest in a case instead .

It is all personal preference. Not taking into account the monthly payments which would be a factor also, the deductible alone of $110 for a $350 phone is not a bad deal when you consider that replacing it before you are eligible for renewal will be normal retail costs.

I personally don't put insurance on my phones but I have only replaced my phones because of choice not because of damage. I also have the secondary bonus of working in a repair shop where I can get the unit fixed for most issues.

If you bought your phone at tmobile then the best place to get a warranty is www.squaretrade.com the BEST warranty available, period. you just have to have proof of purchase like a store receipt or something if you ever need a claim, or if you bought it on Ebay that will suffice as your receipt. can't be beat, used them for years.

never had insurance. Like most, I tend to upgrade to the newer model BBs. Like lucky13 said, ebay is a good source for phones, Ive bought a bunch there.

When I got my 8320 from them in september, I got insurance for a one-time pay of only $5. Is that the insurance the rest of you are talking about?

I found it extraordinarily useful when the device stopped working, and I was able to get a brand new device.

If it's more expensive than that, I wouldn't even bother. Craigslist/eBay/Pinstack Forsale/etc are great places to find replacement devices.

I agree with everyone on this. To pay monthly and also have to pay a deductable for a refurb. Phone is rediculous. You made the right choice.

I don't have insurance on mine. T-Mobile. $110 deductable + 5.99 month, and it doesn't cover liquid damage or cracked screen. I trust RIM enough not to worry about defects. Imo not worth it. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Insurance does cover liquid damage and cracked screens from T-Mobile. Private party insurance may not but T-Mobile's insurance through assurion does. It covers anything not covered under warranty for the first year, after that it will cover any damage on the phone.

I DO have insurance on my T-Mobile phone. I may not keep it the entire time I have my CURVE, but for nearly the price of an expensive coffee, I'm assured that I'll only have to pay $100 for my $400+ phone. Personal opinion...

My personal opinion is if your a person that keeps your phone for 2 years and doesn't upgrade until your contract is over then yeah...Your Dumb. If you buy a new phone every single time a new model comes out and don't wait for your contract to ended or for you to upgrade then insurance is just a waste of $$$. I have TMO 3 1/2 years now and I have gone thru like 5-7 BB's. I'm the Second person in my story. This is just My Personal opinion.

you know i would agree that it is a waste of money and i thought so my self, but my last phone i bought i broke within about 2 months and i was out of luck because i didnt have insurance... i look at it like car insurance, you always think its a waste of money till you accidently bump someone and then you wish you had it.
