Question Alternative way to backup phone?

    Hey Everyone,

I recently had an issue with one of the usb port pins being bent on my 8310 curve. This soon led to being unable to charge the phone or connect the phone to my computer via usb.

Today, I received a brand new 8310, and I was wondering if it is possible at all to retreive / transfer any of my previous data over to my new phone using a different method other than using the device manager.

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I thought i'd see if anyone on here had any ideas. It's just a bit of a pain to add all the contacts, bbm contacts, data etc. on the new phone manually.

Any info would be much appreciated!

    Thanks.

Hello Alpha, and welcome to PinStack!

Do you still have your old device? If so, you can use Desktop Manager and the Switch Device Wizard within.

If you dont have Desktop Manager, you will find a link in the FAQ link in my signature to download it from RIM's site.

If you do have DM, you can use the Switch Device Wizard which by far is the cleanest way to move stuff from one device to the other.

    Hope this helps!

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for the quick response!

I do have my old device. However, I cannot connect it to my computer because the usb's busted.

Is there a way I can transfer all my data using bluetooth??

I think that's the bulk of it. I'll try that out.

    Thanks for your help!

The problem is he needs to get it from one device to the other. I forgot the original device had a blown USB.

alpha, did you do any backups of the old device?

Alpha, cats is talking about syncing your old device with Outlook through the Desktop Manager. As he said, you can sync contacts, calendar, notes and tasks, but not bbm contacts or any emails or texts.

if you don't have one you'll need a bluetooth dongle for your pc(unless it's built in). i got one at office max for about 25 bucks.

    Thanks guys!

It actually was pretty easy syncing with bluetooth. Pretty much just used the desktop manager to drag all my stuff from my old phone on to my computer and transferred it directly to the new phone.

    Alpha.
