    Alltel 8330

I just purchased the 8330 through Alltel and must say that I am thorougly impressed with the device. I wanted to let everybody know that the 8330 does come with BB maps preinstalled. I have not been able to get it to work yet but I probably just need to download Telenav again. Also I know some people were wondering if the device would support MMS and it certainly does. If there are any other questions I can answer for you all just let me know.

Hey JR...glad to hear the device is to your liking. I'm an Alltel business customer and have an 8830 for now but plan to upgrade in a few months.

My only concern with the Curve is it doesn't seem as rugged (not that the 8830 is rugged by any means) than the previous BB's I have had. It's lighter and just seems very fragile. I don't drop mine very often but if I do, I don't want to have to be without my precious BB for any amount of time while waiting on a replacement.

The 8330 certainly does have 96MB of internal memory. I actually had a 8830 before the curve and usually had around 12MB of free memory. I checked my memory on the 8330 and it is 44MB!!

As far as the ruggedness of the 8830, I don't see how the 8830 is any more durable than the 8330. I will say that the 8830 looks like a nicer phone though. But the benefits of thr curve far outweigh its drawbacks. Switch was easy for me.

What is a good site that hosts pics for free?? I used to use photobucket but apparently they got bought and it is no longer free.

I believe that Flikr is free, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone know if Alltel's 8330 has open GPS? On their website it says, "Never get lost again using GPS capabilities with Alltel navigation" which doesn't really specify one way or another.

Check out my initial post. I think that answers your question about the GPS. I have Tellme, Microsoft Live Search, and Google Maps all using the GPS with no problems..

Excellent! Thanks for the quick response. Too bad I'm still stuck with Verizon, so I'm pretty sure I can look forward to NOT having this ability.

the curve looks alot cooler in person than it does in pictures..i work at alltel and have an 8830 and the curve fits really nice in your hand..i like the 2 mp camera and the standard headphone (3.5mm) jack on the curve, but wish it was black with chrome accents like the world edition..but like i said, i was much more impressed with the curve in person than in the online pics i saw
