Ok so im finally getting a blackberry curve from At&t & i had this question.

How many 'characters' can I type in a text message to people who do not have an at&t device?

Is there a limit to the amount of characters that I can send to an at&t device and a non at&t/blackberry

    device?

Im coming from Verizon and they only allow like 160 'characters' to non verizon customers & I was

wondering if at&t/blackberry did the same thing.

    please help,

    thanks.

im pretty sure ATT limits the characters too...

at the top of the sms window, it shows 160/1 of 6

so i think you are limited to 160 per message, but can continue to type..it will just split it up into multiple messages

160 characters is th standard limit for text messaging no matter the carrier, as long as they follow the standard (not like Sprint's no standard way of handling texts)

Keep in mind some companies will actually split the message into pieces and send them individually. Some like tmobile will split them up, but with packet technology everything is split. So it is sent as one txt but chopped up on the server. It may take a bit more to receive the whole txt but it comes as one, not several.
