8350i Wireless PIM synchronization without BES

It has always been my understanding that without BES you do not get wireless sync of PIM information such as calendar, etc. without a 3rd party solution and so one simply uses the Desktotp Manager/cable solution. This is what I have done to sync my 8300 (AT&T) Curve with our Novell Groupwise system at work.

A co-worker, however, just got an 8350i and it somehow synchronizes his calendar/appointments wirelessly. He doesn't know how it does it and neither do I or our IT guys - it just works that way. We do not have BES and so I am curious if this is a feature that is specific to the Nextel/Sprint line/OS or if I've been missing something all this time....can anyone shed some light on this?

    His OS is 4.6.1.83 (142).

On my Curve the OS is 4.5.0.110 (152)

    We use Groupwise 7

    Thanks.

There may be a backup sync setup with his carrier?
