You can go into Profiles, Advanced, Edit, and set the different ringtones and SMS tones. You cannot setup different email notifications for a user per se. There is a thread here on the Stacks that gives you a step-by-step guide to go about doing this but it's pretty in-depth.
Someone else will probably come along and know the post I am talking about and can link you to it.

hope this is what you were thinking of:

hello I had this same question about a month ago. it turns out that you can do it it just takes some work.

All you need to do is set up another profile with the ring tone you want for that person or group of people.

(just in case... go to your profiles menu, it will have like loud, vibrate, quiet, normal, etc. etc. when you go to edit one of those it will contain the information that says what tones are used for your browser, calander, level 1 messages, your E-mails, messenger, phone, SMS txt, and tasks)
so you either need to edit one of those profile settings you never use or make a new one and name it after that person or group of people (menu\edit or menu\new profile) Enter in what tones you want used for that person\group of people and the save it.

next make a new exception (menu\new exception) when you make the exception name it after the person you are making it for then select that person as the from contact. Then you have the option of what profile to use, choose the one you just created, and set a custom ring tone for phone calls there (or if left blank it will use the phone tone you set up in your profile) save that and your all set.

it will now use that exception for when that person calls you or TXT's you or E-mails you (does not work for the blackberry messenger as that is not run through your phone book)
also be aware if you already have an exception set up for that person delete it as the phone will use the first exception it can find for the person trying to cantact you. this worked for me and hopefully will help you. let me know if you need any help with this. It's pretty cool but to do alot of people this way it will take up time so start with a couple at first and work from there. anyway hope this helped.

But what if I don't have the same OS as you? I have 4.3.0 and I was trying to figure out the same thing. So unless I have OS 4.5... I can't set up a SMS notification?

    Thanx.

Ok, so the exception is looked at no matter what profile you have set? In other words I use "normal" so I make a profile for my wife. Setting the tones I want to use as her ringer, for all messages except BB messenger. Then I create an exception naming her as the from contact and listing "wife" profile. The can I go back and choose my loud profile? That should give me all the tones I want except for when my wife, calls, txts, or emails right?

What about vibrate? If I set the BB to vibrate for a meeting and my wife sends a text will the exception overide the vibrate? That could be a bad thing lol

    lol
yeah I ran into this issue as well.
it is an exception, so you choose loud, normal, vibrate, quiet, whatever, your BB will notify accordingly when someone calls you EXCEPT for whoever you made the exception for.

the only way I have found for your BB to be truly on vibrate is to uncheck your exceptions. I know it's a pain, I really wish there was a select all and select none on the exceptions page but it does not seem like there is.

but you have it correct rackmfool.

    enjoy!
