From what I understand, it's taken from your plan...

Like navi said, I'm not sure if you need a plan though. If you do then UMA calls are free. I've done it plenty of times.

    No....

UMA calls ARE NOT free on TMO unless you add the $10 month Hotspot at Home to your plan - does not matter whose router you use. Otherwise they come out of your minutes.

It's coming out your minutes then your not paying anything. Wouldn't you consider that free? When using UMA on your BB, T-Mobile isn't adding a fee or anything so that's the reason why I said it's free. It's coming out of your minutes that you already have. I don't know, but I consider that free.

so even with the BIS plan you still need to add the 10 dollar hotspots? i just switched over from a WM6.1 device, i'm pretty sure the other internet plan comes with hotspots.

The $10 dollars you add on for UMA is not for HotSpot access. It is for unlimited wi-fi calling. Different feature than what is used for data. This is for voice.

In order to get the free UMA calling you must have the $10 a month service and the other thing about that is that it cant be on a Flexpay plan. I have it on my plan and it does save me alot of minutes but the problem they are trying to still work out is the hand off when you switch from UMA to edge you usually drop the call that your on.

this si true, the dropping of the call when handing off has happened to me before bt not every single time. This feature saves me a lot of minutes and the plan that I got for $10/month also included free mobile-to-mobile but it has to be a family plan that you have to get that feature.

You also get free wi-fi calling from any wireless connection from anywhere in the world as long as you're calling the US, it is like calling from USA to USA. I've personally done it from the caribbean to call back home while on vacation though the hotels free wi-fi connection.

Another plus is (if they would fix the handing off issue) that you can start the call on UMA and then walk away from the wi-fi area and the call will continue to be free even when you a switch to EDGE as long as you are still o the same call.

I just want to clarify what I understand.
I can get internet access without an internet plan on my own wireless router, but not wifi calls without the hotspot plan is that correct?

Part of the reason I ask, is that I thought I just had email access (that is what I asked for when I bought through Amazon- I checked the ordersheet), but found out that I have the full BIS plan (am being charged for it), so what I thought I was I was getting free internet at home, but turns out I already has the BIS.

Since I don't have the hotspot plan, any calls via wifi are against my minutes. Correct?

Sorry this is a bit confusing - you CAN make UMA calls on your wireless router without the hotspot plan, yes, they just count against your minutes.

You do not need the $10 plan UNLESS you want UNLIMITED wifi calls for $10 a month.

    Hope that helps?
