8320 - Possible Wifi VoIP on AT&T? Coming soon?

Curious if I had a t-mobile phone unlocked and then used it on the AT&T network. This would allow me to use an 8320 with Wifi on AT&T. Now, lets say I connected this phone to a wireless network and attempted to make a call. My assumption is it would not work for obvious reasons.

However, does AT&T plan to offer a VoIP service like T-mobile does? Or has anyone thought about trying to get AT&T to work on Wifi?

    Thanks

Actually TMO's service is not VOIP, but UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access). And you would not be able to make UMA aka "Hotspot@Home" calls with your AT&T subscription. So far as I know at this time TMO is the only US carrier offering this type of service.

Now you would be able to use the WIFI to surf the web or access your email - just no phone calls...

TMO is the ONLY carrier to develop UMA. We are actually going to take off and run with it quite soon as well with Hotspot at home moving to a new brand and a new type of service. You can surf as stated above but no calls over IP.. that wont happen for awhile on ANY other network.

Not fully true as some on here with Cinci Bell have had UMA success and other carriers such as O2 are also working with it. To be more correct would be to say that at the moment T-Mo is the only US carrier to offer this feature. Not debating your intent, just want to get the correct info out there.
