If you want to tether, you need a tethering plan. And you are correct, tethering with AT&T is about $60. There is no way around this, and if you try to use the internet without the Tethering plan, you will incur charges.

he's right, says it right in the literature and contract, the $30 blackberry plan is not for tethering, and tethering is ummm.... *scrambles to dig up the brochure from a couple weeks ago* $80 a month

If you are still within your grace period T Mobile charges $19.99 for unlimited BB data and supports tethering at no additional cost....

Really so I could tether my blackberry curve(8320 with Tmo service) with my blackberry data plan and it would be of no charge? Awesome!

Yeah, but you have to make sure your area gets good signal. Have a friend with a pearl, and she's had a time getting good signal, so the tethering would me useless.~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Ya I wanted to tether my phone also but my wife and I are already paying $30 each for unlimited data on each BB and then ATT wants $30 more to tether? Thats $90 plus tax... I love ATT never had a problem but its more of a love the service hate the price gouging.

I tether all the time on tmobile. I never really have any problems. Its great in places like airports where they charge you for wifi use. Can't beat 19.99 ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

That's sick! I didn't know TMO gives you free tethering with the 19.99 BlackBerry Plan. I am going to have to try it some time.Cool!

Yup, I am using TMO with my 8320 right now, with my laptop. Makes it easier for certain things. Flat fee of $19.99. Use it all the time. I am using the USB cable that came with the phone. You have to run the BB software at the same time on your pc. I have not figured out the bluetooth connection. Faster than normal dial up, but much slower than high speed, but still emails, and regular surfing works fine. But not the best if you wanted to down load big files.

justajason, while on a trip I was in a fringe area with weak signal. TMO BB support helped me tweek my Pearl so that I could tether with a weak signal, and it sure helped! Tell your friend to give her provider a call. They should be able to help.
