XVID video codec supported on Storm (DivX is not)

Yep - just tested a few files, video quality is great.

To be clear: the Storm plays avi video files encoded using the XviD codec.
DivX doesn't seem to be supported.

Test video info (it's likely other resolutions/framerates work too):

    ViDEO: XviD at 1000 kbps
    AUDiO: VBR MP3 ~128kbps 2ch 48khz
    ASPECT RATiO: 16:9
    RESOLUTiON: 624x352
    FRAME RATE: 25 fps

    Native XviD... Nice job RIM!

Feel free to post any other codecs that work.

Did you transfer this to the Storm w/out converting first?

yep, transferred all 700MB in native XviD, worked great.

I'm not sure what the max framerate is for the Storm... but about 1 of every 5 won't play.

Might want to try a sample file before transferring all 700MB.

    AVICodec download:
    http://www.videohelp.com/download/AVIcodec_1.2_b113.exe
    Mirror:
    http://avicodec.free.fr/ftp/AVIcodec_1.2_b113.exe

Go into options, you can integrate the tool into right-click menu of windows.

    This tool will identify:
    A - the file's audio/video codec
B - whether or not your system has the correct AV codecs installed (bottom)

If you need the XviD codec:
    http://www.digital-digest.com/softwa...2&ssid=0&did=1

If you need sample XviD AVI files for testing:

GSpot is a great free tool that will tell you all kinds of information (including audio and video codecs) about your video:

Yeah I tried a couple of Divx video and it doesn't work but who cares. 98% of my videos are in Xvid format. The only annoying thing about the video player is fast forwarding is darn slow. It takes about 5 minutes to move the slider halfway through the movie.

Brkdr, Check what encoding was used, are you converting these your self or getting them from other sources? Just because its an mp4 doesnt mean it will work, it had to be encoded in the correct settings, other wise your player wont play it, or it will overload the graphics driver for your BB or your phone may not have enough memory to run it and it will reset your phone. (mine will reset if I try to play a movie while under 8MB
It takes many professionals versed in many different area's to help the masses, I am just a single drop in that pool.
