Right now the bold has some pretty good specs when compared to the iphone. The thunder on the other hand might have some very insane specs when it comes out. Supposedly 3.5G/pre4G, cpu/ram will probably be insane too.

    BB is a secure device.
iPhone is about as secure as a Snickers bar.

Heh, love the snickers comment! As far as I remember rim was patterning a roll out keyboard, which to me seems like it will be just a soft rubber mat that rolls out onto the bottom mart of the screen, or something of that kind at least!

In regard to the specs, I don't think thunder will be that far from bold in not identical to it, considering just the processor, ram and connection speeds! After all, it is scheduled for Q3 release, which is fairly soon! I really don't see RIM making any more changes, that is way too soon to roll out the big guns as seeing how the processor is already faster then Iphone and many of those on the market!
And as far as I know, many of the towers had just recently installed support for the 3G, there was an article on that about att pushing workers to hard and such! So after weighting out these factors, it seems quite improbable for RIM to step up the game so soon and completely leave the anticipated bold in the dust (spec wise) only few months after its release!

I have a hard time understanding why there is so much debate on BlackBerry vs i phone.

BlackBerry wins hands down! You have a entire varity of blackberrys to choose from. And can choose who you want your carrier to be. I phone you are stuck with pretty much the same model, some just have more memory than others. And you are stuck with at&t.

BlackBerry truly improves new devices, just take a look at the specs of the bold. i phone just seems to give you more of the same.

So let's take a look at what the i phone does have. A cool ui, good browser, and good media player. Than compare it to what we can only speculate a touch berry to have. A touch berry will have all the roots of any BlackBerry. It will be a strong work horse. They will improve the memory, I base that on looking at the specs of the new bold. They will give it a pretty cool ui, I assume this becouse it will be touch. And BlackBerry has started a trend of a better browser, media player, and so on. Again look at the specs of the bold. So why would the touch berry not be blow the i phone out of the water? I just can't wait until I can get one in my hands! ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

I for one get tired of these analyst predictions. I read somewhere most tech predictions fail. Many of these predictions are often based on early product measures, since we cannot measure failures until the item is placed in the field we can only assume. Interesting article but BB products speak for themselves.

If anyone here works for a carrier and is good at tracking/comparing sales figures, they should set themselves a reminder to review this post in exactly one year.

Then, they could compare sales of the new Blackberry models with the new iPhone, and write a rebuttal to the commentary entitled "Why People Who Predicted the New Blackberry Models Would Fail Should Have Been More in Touch with Facts and Reality Before Writing Articles About Why the Bold Will Fail".

    Mere minutes later.......

I got a little long on the title. What would you call the article?

What about this post? Why can't the Thunder look like this phone called the 111. I think that would be sweet to have the option of touch or keyboard.

The only way the Thunder will fail (and I don't think that given what we know of it right now guarantees success) will be if the US decides to bomb Canada.

Someone replied to the article with a couple of .jpg images, including this one of a supposedly patented slide out keyboard on the Thunder.
The BB Admin did say in the comment for the above listed article that a "better device would be a Thunder with a keyboard."

    You never know....

I did have an iPhone that I traded my SK3 for.I did enjoy the UI but after 6 months I started to miss my AIM native app. It was unlocked and I didn't upgrade to the newer firmwares because I didn't want to chance "bricking" it.

I decided to go with a BB because of my texting / e-mailing / chatting habits. As well as needing push e-mail for business reasons. One of the main reasons was due to me surfing the net via iPhone I'd miss calls, or myphone wouldn't ring and sometimes it did ring and the screen for me to answer it wouldn't come up (happened occasionally but was annoying when it did)

When I had the iPhone I always ended up turning it horizontal to type anyways, so I decided to get my BB because its more professional and business savvy. As well as I'd be able to upgrade without worrying about breaking a high-end device.

Since I've had my BB, I must admit that I feel much better using an actual keyboard, and that yes this thing is addictive it is truly a Crackberry.

Any non-users of a BB device that are contemplating getting one, or trying to choose between an iPhone like I said I left the iPhone for my Crackberry. The ringers are VERY loud (versus the iPhone), even LOW is loud on the BB (if that makes sense) its great for business / personal use I'm so quick with texting on it feels like I've had it for months instead of 3 wks.

Its expensive, shiny, and means business...its a Blackberry, GET ONE!

I hope this helps anyone's choice deciding!

P.S. You can send msgs via BB using PIN messaging, which means you don't have to give out your phone number for someone to send you a message if they already have a BB!

When I say upgrade without breaking the device, I mean upgrading the software / firmware (on the iphone)
