    Verizon policy and the storm

The full retail price of the storm is $509 with no rebate at all. If you doubt me you can contact your local verozon store. Now as for best buy. Since they are not apart of Verizon and are only an authorized dealer. They can charge what ever they want since they buy the phones from Verizon first.

When you are purchasing from an authorized dealer becareful on what you are signing. Some of those authorized dealers carry a contract of their own. Meaning you could be signing one for Verizon and one for them. Once again since they purchase the phone from Verizon they can charge what ever for it and can have their own contracts as well.

Also if you purchase a phone from them and are within contract and would like to return a phone for any reason you can do so within 30 days only to that store you can not return it to a Verizon store. You will also have a one year warranty on that phone that Verizon will honor to swap out for same device.

Now if you buy the phone full retail from an authorized dealer. Verizon will not honor any type of warranty and you are flying solo. So if anything goes wrong you must contact that dealer. So I suggest before you go purchase the storm full retail from best buy or any authorized dealer find out what their warranty policies are.

Oh I forgot to also say if you buy the phone at full retail at a Verizon store then yes you have a one year warranty on the phone and you Can get insurance on it at that time also. You can not get insurance with Verizon if you purchase at an authorized dealer.

Just to let you know it will be cheaper to add a line to your account and get it at retail price than buying it at full retail.

Just take full retail price of 509 minus 200 what you would pay for for new contract. Gives you 309 take that minus 239.76 which is 24 months times 9.99 for the added line that equals 69.24 that you are saving off the full retail price and you are spreading the payment over 2 years. Just some food for thought when you buy your storm.

You can get insurance on any new handsets you purchase at certain authorized dealers...

Hooray for Full Retail being under $600. Now if only I could purchase the device friday without having to have Verizon ship the device. I took the day off of work for nothing

Well I already used PTO to request the day off. I'm only sort of complaining as I'll probably get overnight shipping on the Storm to get it on Saturday. A four day work week isn't so bad really.

Now I just have to decide how I want to place my order...

Wait inline for a few hours and leave a VZW store broke and empty handed, place online order (what time will that begin I wonder?), or order through telesales.

I think that if you add a Storm on a new $9.99 line you must add about $30/month for data on that Storm (Verizon will not let you have a BB without a data plan). That's another $720 for the 2 years. If you want text messaging on your Storm figure another $240 for 2 years. That's $960 to save about $300 on the retail price. If you truly need another phone it's one thing but if you're doing it to save upfront on the Storm it's a really bad deal. If you're thinking about getting the Storm at a discount with another line and then switching it to your main line (and ditching your mainline phone) think again. If you disconnect the new Storm from the new line withing about 6 months they'll charge your CC the $309 difference between what you paid and the new phone price. They think of everything, don't they!

Well it is a given that you have to have the data plan. That is with all BB actually now all pda's with Verizon. I was just talking about the device price.

As for the charge of 309 that is false you will not be charged for changing the storm from a the added line to what ever line you want on your plan. I already talked to the managers at my store and confirmed this.

Yea, as long as you keep the line then they wont charge you anything, but if you cancel your going to be paying the ETF, as well as the difference between what you paid and the retail price of the phone.

This is true to a certin extent. You will get charged an ETF that starts at $175 but it goes down $5 for every month that you keep it. You will not get charged the difference in the price of the phone though.

When you say "at my store" do you own the store? Because if you don't the store managers are one thing, the billing dept is somewhere else, and in a lot of the stores with the Verizon Logo on them the people who work there have nothing to do with billing (trust me, been there done that). My point is this: if you think you can somehow save money on a new Storm by adding an extra line to your Vzn account thus getting a discount from the regular price and then switch something and do away with that line think again. And whatever you do don't take the store manager's word for it-he doesn't send out the bills, he just signs you up and hands you your phone. The bills come later!

I am not saying to do away with the line. I am saying if you were going to be with VZW for another couple years and don't have 509 to pull out of your pocket at that time this is another option. I myself do not have half a grand just laying around to drop on a phone. Yes you would have to keep the dead line for 2 years.

I never said to get rid of the line. You can put a family member on your plan if you want to. It is up to you what you want to do with the dead line.

In general as for canceling a line yes you are going to get an etf. But no they will not charge the difference of the phone. That is with any phone that is purchased.

As for the storm if you do not have half a grand laying around and you are not eligable to upgrade. You can add a line to your account to get it at the cheaper price and move the phone to your main line. Yes it is a contracted line for 2 years. But if you think of it as the 9.99 as payment for your storm spread out over 2 years.

This may be a better deal for some and may not be for others. I don't know what everyones account looks like. I was just throwing it out there as an option to those who think they would be able to benefit from it.

I myself would consider this because all I have to pay is 200 then the rest is spread out over 2 years at 9.99 a month. The extra would just stay dead or I would give it to some one. Now I would rather pay the 9.99 for 2 years than pay half a grand right befor Christmas and rent is due. That I can't afford. I still make out cheaper paying in total 71 dollars less than paying 509 out of my pocket for full retail. I mean if you have the money to expend like that more power to you. But if you are like me and don't really have the expendable cash right now but want the phone. Then it is cheaper to do it my way.

I hope I have clearified everything. I can tell that some people were confused on my logic.

Not to belabor the point but you won't walk out with a Storm tied to a $9.99/mo contract. You'll have to accept another $30/mo data plan with it. You can walk out with a cheapo phone, not a BB (no data no BB is their policy with discounted phones).
