So I have a picture I took as my home screen wallpaper - cool enough. Sometimes, not at all every tiime however, when I click an app, I get the lightning bolt "storm" default picture in a tiny box in the middle of the screen - Like a tiny version of the original wallpaper - any ideas?

that has happened to my quite a few times, sometimes it is a full screen lightning bolt picture. Most of the time it is just a little rectangle where the title of the app usually is. strange...

lol no its not normal. its a bug. I've gotten that in the center all the way at the bottom. I only see the bottom of the lightning at times. Its a bug and its annoying.

Same here, it's definitely a bug.

if it's a bug, meaning in the OS, then it's "normal" - not a defect in other words.

Indeed basically you dont have a defective phone so no worries there.
Try upgrading your phone to the latest available OS and see if that fixes your issue
