What if you wish to make a phone call?

Everyone should be a VZW customer and then we can all talk for free!

Having read all of this, why doesn't someone figure out how to remove the lock? Is this hardware? Is it software? Part of the OS? They obviously have a way to lock or unlock it, right? How do they do that?

Somewhere out there someone knows how this is done.....

Because getting an unlocked phone costs $300-400 more than getting it 'locked' from verizon. Is having a tad more freedom really worth that much extra?

    They locked it.

just came back from the VZ store. Google maps is free; for GPS you must buy the stupid VZ thing. Not that anyone cares, but blackberry just lost a customer who desperately wanted to come back home.

Just PINed you... Your GPS is unlocked? Or are you referring to using VZNavigator?

I think this is because BBMaps is now an "approved" application deemed by Verizon. So I guess the GPS is safe to use with BBMaps and VZNav, not really sure what qualifies that.

Probably because Verizon knows BBmaps can't compete with VZNav... If those are your only two options, one would be more inclined to give up the $10/mo and go with VZNav for more features..

It may just be that GMaps doesn't support BB 4.7 yet folks, is there a supposed compatible version for the storm?

There's been provisions in Google Maps for use with the storm (touch "icons" on the screen for zooming, and my location) -- I would assume this is compatible version.
