And continue to have to upgrade OS versions 50 plus times to get something that should work out of the box? Or to have to replace a device 2 or 3 times?

My BlackBerry track record since 2003:

    950 x 1
    7730 x 2
    7100t x 3
    7105t x 2
    8100 x 3
    8120 x 1

Plus I have found a phone that has 3G, WiFi, GPS, threaded texts, WinMo 6.1 (WinMo was my introduction to the smartphone), and I can load JiveTalk on it to get any missing instant messaging chat applications.

If I decide to come back to blackberry in a few years, so be it. I just need a break from the consistent issues I have had and now that RIM has taken this attitude they made my decision easier.

    To be brutally honest............

I have been in DENIAL for months now.

Its embarrasing sometimes showing other people a neat feature or something on my 9530 only to have it crash in their hands. Come on, really? I spent $400 on a PS3 a year ago and haven't had a single issue with it. I will end up paying alot more for my Storm and have I DAILY issues regardless of which OS I run. ($100 a month times 24 in theory is $2400.)

^^^^^^ Until Balsillie plauged himself with foot IN mouth disease, I kept telling myself "the positives far outnumber the negatives." Guess what, there shouldn't be negatives to contend with at all.
If the device doesn't work, don't release it yet. On the other hand, if the device doesn't have a stable OS, release one ASAP.

    Yes and no.
But there are many who had been putting up with a lot; only due to their loyalty ... stood by RIM thinking that RIM didnt know it would be this bad when they released it, and even though they also did it with the Bold, hopefully now they have learned their lesson. However the comment made by Balsilly states that they think its ok to release their devices like this. It seems RIM's Ego has also become a victim of the inflated BB hype which has taken the world by ''storm''.

Erica my curve has never NEEDED a upgrade, well maybe once. To 4.5 but it wasn't to fix it. They added features. Now they come with 4.5. Anyway I'm not trying to get you to stay with RIM, but the fact is the curve is top of the line out of the box. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Er, not everyone. I know in the past when I've raised different issues some people mentioned to be patient, that RIM reads the stacks and eventually the issues would be addressed and consumers would be listened to. There are issues with every device/platform, but people had a high-level of faith that RIM had a strong intent to build devices that were as glitch free as possible. That faith was lost for some people when they read Jim's comments. It doesn't matter that winmo, android, etc. have glitches too, people didn't like hearing a perceived change in RIM's attitude - if they're going to be the same as other OS's why stick around IF you've been having issues. For some who have been having issues they feel it's now time to consider other devices, rather than continue to be frustrated.

Unfortunately, there are also some people who were happy or fairly happy about RIM and are considering switching cause of what they've been reading.

For most of us our cellphones are with us 24/7 or at least a good part of the day. Our time spent with them should be as pleasing as possible. I don't think it's necessary for us to be on sides, teams, or turn our frustrations on each other. I would hope those who find RIM frustrating find a phone that makes them happy, and that those who are happy with RIM continue to be happy with them and enjoy them.

I also hope RIM rethinks the "new reality". It may mean a device may take a little longer to get to market, but I think they're underestimating a consumer's willingness to wait for and purchase a solid device. If glitches can be fixed down the road, they can just as easily be fixed at the start of the road, allowing for a more pleasant journey...

Good point but what are you trying to access on your bb that NEEDS 3g? It a great feature, but I've never found myself saying "dammit, if I had 3g…". via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

The major reason the G1 has some issues is simply because it's the first ever Android powered phone and of course Android is also new. RIM has been in business well over a decade. Also it's important to note that the G1 is not a fair reflection on the quality of HTC handsets as it was built to a (low) price as dictated by T-Mobile. As someone with an inside view of Android, I can say with certainty that this OS is going to come on strong as more mfgs get involved.

I'm just took delivery of an Android powered Agora Pro, and it's stunning. I have been using it now as my main phone and it's features, it's speed, stability and reliability are true time savers. I forgot how much time I was burning up with OS swaps, random resets and other bugs that are present in the new 4.6 / 4.7 generation of the BB OS.

    Cheers...

With all due respect, you've either not had a need, or you have not experienced the true speed of 3G. RIM as quite a ways to go before their 3G phones perform as well as the competition. I've been using the fast, stable and reliable AT&T 3G network for well over a year with other brands of 3G smartphones such as Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, O2, HTC, Vodafone, and others. Until I installed 4.6.0.210 on my Bold it was less than half as fast as the those smartphones.

That doesn't really answer his question at all archer..

he asked "what are you trying to access on your bb that NEEDS 3G" which is a very valid question.

I also have never found myself NEEDING 3G except for actual full internet in the form of tethering and that's why I have an air card through Sprint. It sounds more like you're bashing RIM and making assumptions of another stacker than actually responding to the quoted user..

Know that only about 10% of people will ever change the OS that comes with the phone.
Very true. For every 10 bb users only about 1 will use forums and know or even care about OS upgrades. Thus most Storm users are enjoying the "new reality" in FULL.

I find wi-fi far more useful than 3g. I'm via wifi on my 8900 at least 75% of most days.
