Question One Question: Google Maps w/ GPS? (YES or NO)

I can't seem to find a straight answer in this thread.

Does google maps with with real GPS (not assisted GPS)?

I've read that BBmaps works, but does this require that one buy the VZnav and then use BBmaps? I just want the phone to act like the iPhone or other GPS enabled phones on ATT.... accurate and FREE. I don't care about turn by turn.

(If they have locked it out, its a deal breaker for me. I'm sick of Verizon doing this. Even though this phone is awesome, I won't get it. One more phone for you guys to take )

    not for me

bbmaps works great. I have tried google maps reloaded a couple times and messed around with permissions and it still is 5000+meters off.

I got my phone in Seattle and traveled back to Portland today using VZ Nav and downloaded google maps half way down and it was working like a charm... but now when I go in it errors out saying it can't find my location and the the map does not want to go into full screen the keyboard stays locked open in portrait mode taking up half the screen... i dont know but it has issues...

The problem isn't whether it finds a location or not. The problem is whether it has GPS.

    The RIGHT answer: NO

Unfortunately I have not gotten a GPS connection with Google Maps...only triangulation. GPS signal DOES work with BBMaps....too bad this app SUCKS....

I will say the Google Maps version updated for the storm works smoothly...triangulation is about as accurate as it is on any other device...but NO GPS connection. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

If anyone else finds what I said to be fals and it is NOT A TRIANGULATION SIGNAL THAT YOU ARE PICKING UP lol....please post.

I also only get the tower triangulation with google maps.

Too be honest google maps is irking me currently. If I have compability enabled, I have touch controls. If I don't have it enabled, I get full screen (vertical or horizontal) , but no touch control .

    Hmmm...... Thanks for the input.

I was hoping it was a Google issue, but it looks like it's not. I thought Verizon had learned their lesson.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~anyone got BB maps to work on the storm? When I tried to download it I was told that my device was not supported. Why would Blackberry themselves not support the storm? I can see 3rd party apps not working... but Blackberry?

So it looks like BB maps is preloaded on the storm... Currently hanging my head in shame... Still don't get why it would say device not supported if you try to download it for the storm though?

The GPS works without VZ Navigator. Google Maps works - however - is unable to read the GPS info and resorts to triangulation. Google needs to update Google Maps for the Storm.

Step outside. You need to have something close to a direct line of sight with the sky to receive a signal. For me, inside the house works...interior of the office building doesn't but by a window does.

    Any update on this?

I played with one in the store and both VZ Navigator and BB maps located satellites, however Google Maps could not.

I looked for another post but couldn't find anything. Is this a google issue and will be fixed with their next revision for the Storm?

    Thx

I don't think Google Maps works yet. It may never work knowing how Verizon does it. They make gobs of $$ with VZN Nav. Tons. I don't think they'll permit another software program to work as well as their and forego all that $$ do you? I think Garmin has a program that works, but you have to pay for it up front.
