Has anyone figured out how to unlock the GPS puck or the freeing the GPS puck so that we can use Google Maps? I have a ton of addresses stored.

I dont need that silly VZW nav which is a memory hog....

Freaking Verizon.... I am thinking of just unlocking my Storm and paying the early cancellation fee to go some place else.

    Thoughts?

Yeah but from what I've heard the Storm does not support North American GSM bands. The VZW gsm is for only overseas use.

    My thoughts...
I really miss functionality of Google Maps as well. I'm sure we'll get some type of version upgrade at somepoint. I am learning to use BBMaps more now. I always just deleted it off my previous devices. GPS works for at least one app that isn't VZNav so I am trying to embrace it, lol.

    To view contacts in BBMaps...
Go to address book > highlight contact > menu key > view map.

I wouldn't recommend another carrier as it sounds like you will be stuck with slower speeds. I came over to Verizon from TMO, there is a big difference in speed in my opinion.

Mine has GoogleMaps on it. It will find where I am now. I deleted the vzNavigate and everything works better too. I dont need turn by turn, I allready have a garmin GPS. I am came to Verizon from AT&T iPhone. Still not happy with the Storm, but beginning to like better.

My understanding is the GPS is not locked, it's just Google Maps needs a bit of an update to work with the 4.7 OS / Storm GPS. Man I wish my Storm would get here already....Dec 15th is a long way away.

I did not have to load GoogleMaps.

    To turn on GPS
    Go to Tools
    Click GPS

    you should see

    GPS Data Source
    Set to Device GPS

    GPS Services
    Set to Location On

    Location Aiding:
    Set to Enabled

I Added the VZNavigator at Purchase and could not get it to work until these setting were enabled.

    I canceled VZNavigator today.
