    help with symbol on home screen & 3G

    Advertisement

    I have a symbol on my homescreen top right under the signal strength and network connection type that is continuously present. It looks like a circle with a cross through the middle of it followed by three ")))".
    Anyone know what that is? Also, I am having issues picking up a 3G network. I was just in vegas for the week and according to the Verizon 3G map, I should have coverage. thoguhts?

    I think the circle is your GPS Services is set to "Location On". Not sure about the 3G, I don't have it in my area period...

    I'm not sure what that symbol represents but there is no such symbol for GPS.

    The "cross" is your E-911 (GPS) the three )'s would indicate you have location on. Allowing other programs to access your location information.

    As far as 3G, that is indicated by 1x, 1xev, and 1XEV next to your signal strength. 1XEV being full 3G/EVDO coverage.
    You have two ears, two eyes, and one mouth;
    therefore, listen and observe twice as often as you speak.

    you have to manually go and turn it on - that is to say, you can use Google maps without doing so, but if you goto Options>advanced options>gps, and change it from E911 only to location on, you will see that on your home screen - required to use VZ navigator - hope this helps

    so will changing it back to E911 conserve battery? and just to confirm, I can still use Google Maps in the "E911" mode?

    The battery life is awful on this thing.

    im not 100% on this, but I would venture to guess that it does save battery life; as it probably constantly broadcasts a signal to be received - I always leave it off and if you mean by does google maps still work, you mean the approximate location then yes, it doesnt change no matter what setting you have it on as far as I can tell

    If I understand it right... you want to remove that symbol that is right under 3g signal on your storm. You cant You can remove signal lines that are next to gps symbol. Go Options>Advance>GPS and switch from "Location ON" to "E911".
    STORM 9530 OS 4.7.0.122v3.5h
