    Blackberry Storm Unlocked?

i am a T-Mobile user and was wondering what are my chances for gettin this phone unlocked. i know that Vodafone uses SIM cards like T-Mobile. i have had 2 blackberry phones on T-Mobile and was wondering if i will get the EDGE signal still. dont know what it is exactly lol but was wondering if i wouldnt get a strong single if its a Vodafone. or any other draw backs on getting a UK phone to work in USA (features/performance). if it is all good and unlockable, where does some1 get this unlocked?

Your best bet is to buy one from AT&T, since they have the lowest full price. Then go online, there are unlocking services that will provide you with the code. Now you are all set to run it on T-Mobile

(just remember that you get EDGE only, not 3G)

You have to wait for the BlackBerry Thunder AKA 9500.
(it just got approved by the FCC early this month)

The Storm AKA 9530 will not work on a GSM network here in the US.
That's like being able to use an iPhone on Verizon or sprint, just can't happen.

AT&T will be getting the Storm, as there are two versions, one GSM and one CDMA as I mentioned in another thread. Here is a link for proof of these two. The GSM Version is being released by Vodafone first, then after Verizon releases the CDMA version in the US.

AT&T will get the GSM version, as RIM has always meant to provide one for their largest BB carrier in the US, which is AT&T

Also for clarification the 9500 was code named Thunder until RIM decided to call it the Storm, along with the 9530

    Both Storm Models 9500 & 9530

    Cheers...

So when is this att version coming out? I work at best buy and was talking to a mobile rep and he said it could take up to a year. which is wayyyy too long. if there are 2 versions of the phone...which have almost the same specs then shouldnt they be released pretty close to one another?

Im trying to decide if i should go pick up a bold this week or wait a for the storm... and if i have to wait a year im just going to get my bold then upgrade when the storm comes out for att

The moment there is a firm date you will see it here on PinStack.

Remember that unfortunately you simply should not listen to the reps, as they get no information in advance, that they can share with you. Thus unfortunately they are quick to just tell you whatever they feel like at the moment, all of which is meaningless.

Want to know the real story? Check out PinStack frequently...

Your best bet is to get the 9500. The 9530 from Verizon might work but it remains to be seen what Vzw does with the NA GSM bands. As for a version of the Storm coming to AT&T. It will be middle to late '09. The lineup for GSM carriers in '09 is going to be awesome! If you don't have to upgrade right now I'd suggest waiting. Heres a quick run down: There will be a mix between Javelin/Bold that's a touch screen. Theres the NA GSM version of the Storm. Then theres Pluto. If you can wait, RIM will not disappoint in '09.

KaraBear... If one was interested in the best of BB's for 2009.
What would be the approx time frame to wait until?

(for ex: wait for the time frame between Mar ~ June 09)

Archer the ever curious BB addict would enjoy hearing from you...

Well we all know how the "projected" release dates have been as of late. But yes, I would say from April to July. There will definitely be some exciting announcements at WES. But the GSM lineup is awesome and much of the lineup has "touch" incorporated.

I wonder if I were to get it, unlock it and use it in Canada, will I be able to enjoy the full benefit of the berry or will I have to sacrifice certain things. ( connection speed and so on ) Any idea?
