    Interesting observation...

    http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/...-os/#more-9499

    Article in a nut shell.

BGR surmised Verizon was going to launch with 4.7.0.82, but found a last minute security flaw they were unable to fix in enough time for launch. They had to Downgrade all the devices OS to 4.7.0.65.

They said there will be no more Storms released without an update, pushing the thing back to Dec. 5 shipping for those who ordered one. Get it right the first time!

is that a conspiracy??? or just making the best out of a bad situation? i'm sure glad i got mine with .65 instead of waiting a while longer for .82 upgrading is easy

I have a few users that have been hounding me for months about the storm. I never got my demo from my rep and in lieu of these recent findings I think the best course of action for the company I work for is to wait until December when the new software comes out. I don't want to have to go back and start upgrading software when the device is so new.

Waiting is fine but an os upgrade is about as hard as swallowing an asprin .furthermore I have yet to experience any major problems.

This may be true for an end user, but for a company it is simply not acceptable.

Perhaps it's just me, purchasing a device that needs an immediate upgrade is really unfortunate. I would be pretty darn upset if I was told that I had to upgrade my phone right away.

I'm as excited as the next to try out the Storm, but I must confess I expected better from RIM and Verizon.

the phone has a wireless upgrade. it's just a couple of clicks(pretty cool clicks if i do say so myself) to do the upgrade. not sure how long it takes but it is very simple to do. but i do agree, in a business the last thing you want to worry about is your employees communication devices.

as far as rim and verizon, i say kudos to both. great device from rim.they have some learning curves with this new device but it seems that they are very proactive in making it better. i think verizon did a good job getting a highly anticipated device in the market on time (or very close to "on time"). i think they handeled the evident last minute os changes as well as any one could have.

How quickly people forget that ALL the recent shipments of blackberrys have had to have immediate updates....wow...how quickly people forget.

My director asked me to order a few of these phones in for product testing as soon as possible. I just had a feeling yesterday morning that I should wait. I wanted to hear what everyone had to say before I, or my associates would make a decision to order these devices. I'm glad we waited.

I agree. I don't really see it as that big of a deal, and it looks like one of those things that will be fixed in the next couple of weeks anyways.

Haven't forgotten. There's a reason I don't own a Bold right now. I don't think they're ready for prime time. And frankly, I need 100% reliability which to me means fully functional without any hassle.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a software engineer by trade and I don't mind installing OS updates. But if I'm paying over $200 for a device, it had better work out of the box.

I was at a retail store today talking to a sales rep about the software issue and he stated to me that the updated software version may not be out by December 5th.

The average owner doesn't even know it's possible to update the OS on a phone. And half of those that do won't ever do it. That's why Verizon is waiting to re-release the phone: it'll make it a better experience for at least 75% of buyers. Smart!
