Hey guys, I always wonder how are pin numbers generated? I went through 3 storms and all three and well my 4th one is all on the 306.... And my PIN now is all numbers, im actually happy, LOL its easier to memorize..

Why are the Storms all first three numbers are 306, anyone with 8900 who starts with 306?

Hope to hear from you folks.

The PIN is burned into the permanent firmware along with the device's serial number (IMEI number on GSM networks) at the factory. Each device has a unique PIN and serial number.

I'm pretty sure there is some sort of complex algorithm that connects the PIN with IMEIs and ESNs... Since imei's and esn's are configured to somewhat identify a product, and a pin is probably generated based on the imei or esn, that's how the pins of storms are probably similar...

Not permanently. PIN, IMEI, and ESN are in non-volatile flash. They can be changed with the right software.

I don't think anyone outside of RIM could explain the relationships between the various device numbers, but it is possible that there is no real relationship. Active devices connect to RIM's systems, where they could compare values against the big device database.

    My Storm 9530 is 305xxxxx.
I've never found a secret decoder wheel for PINs.
A curiosity yes, but critical or even useful to know I don't think so. Its not like it would tell you much of anything since most BlackBerry can be moved from carrier to carrier.
