    A way around full retail?

I had a thought about Verizon and full retail since I have only been with them for about 3-4 months.

I wonder if its possible to get a new line added to my account with the Storm to get it at a discounted price. Then, do an ESN change to swap the Storm to my current mobile number, then cancel the line I had added and pay the $175 ETF.

    Your thoughts?

A friend of mine at work thinks they would then somehow charge me with the full retail cost anyways. If the Storm is $699, I might just try and conjure up a crazy plan, if it costs $499, i'll just pay it out right.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Worth a try that's for sure.

2 words of advice about the new BBs and pricing: Just Wait. Look at the Bold: people were all going nuts paying $600 in Canada for unlocked, then $550 here, then $300 with a 2 year, yadayada. Within 48 hours people were getting them for $150 with a 2 year extension (not eligible for upgrade), $99 for new ATT users, even $199 just to walk into the store and extend. All kinds of deals pop up after the suckers get theirs for $600 the first 2 days. Then the price comes down like a rock!

that would work j. you might also look at adding a new line (if you have a family plan) for 10 bucks a month and getting the 1 year contract.that way you could cancel in a year and only be out 120 bucks.

I cannot speak for verizon. But with USC you would only be charged the full retail if you canceled within the first thirty days and did not return the phone to the store. After thirty if you cancel you only pay the ETF. But good luck if you go that route. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

I don't know how Verizon handles this but I was able to do just what you are talking about on my Alltel account no issues or grief from the rep at all they just did it. Only difference with me is I kept the extra line.

Your line of thinking mirrors mine. I tried this recently with another carrier and got slapped....... I managed to get away with it for about 8 minutes before it was detected...heh! So while I cannot say if this is applicable to Verizon, I would read their terms and conditions as I did (after the fact...duh) only to find there were no loop holes.

my way would be perfectly legal and acceptable but i'm not sure just how much money you would save by adding a line with a 1 year contract.

I blew it and cancelled after 28 days, thinking it had been a month.

Here's what I did. I added a line, and it came with entitlement to a phone at upgrade price, otherwise I was just going to add a line. So I bought the phone, returned as above, and they charged my account the difference between what I had paid (upgrade price) and the full retail. So in order to unwind the deal, I had to do a lot of talking (the phone had 800 min use), returned the phone, and ended up with just the additional line.

It would work. But the only little problem for me is that I would have 2 BB on my account and Verizon would charge me the $29.99 Data fee even though I would be using the BB.
