    Weird reboot situation

My 9700 rebooted after a battery pull. Before this the device was working excellent. However after coming back to the mainscreen, some apps (like Smartwifi) ask for permission but trackpad is not working to choose "allow" and device "freezes". Another reboot resulted in the same situation. Also the smart side buttons do not function, and BB desktop manager cannot connect to the device in this state. However the keys, like Alt, Shift appear to function and show their icon on screen. Alt-Shift-Del buttons allow to reset the device. Date and battery charge are also updated after another reset-trial the next day, along with a pop-up to dismiss the alarm.

Point is that the device was working properly and now does not allow access. Moreover there is some fresh important data on the device that has not yet been backed-up.....

Anyone an idea how to re-install the OS in case it got corrupted?
However unlikely, can the trackpad be damaged by a reboot?

    Thanks,
    Dirk

First, let's try downloading and using BBSAK. You can find it here.

See if BBSAK will allow you to connect. If so, you might be able to load the OS through BBSAK.

What OS do you currently have on the device? You can't "reload" the same OS unless you wipe the device first. Since you said you have fresh data on there that you don't want to lose, you'll have to either downgrade or upgrade your software.

Let's get these questions answered first, then we'll take it from there.

Could connect to the device with BBSAK and backed up the applications. I don't know if that also includes the data contained in them. However trying to load OS 5.0.0.862 (from previous 5.0.0.743) the application loader appears to be stuck at reading the device service information. (see screenshot)

In case I would wipe the device and do a clean install, will the data in the backed-up applications be retrievable or lost?

Sorry I wasn't around, but this part of the process can take awhile. Did you leave it be?

Did the process all over again, but remains stuck. Kept it going overnight.

Just now tried to install a downgrade and this hurdle is taken. But appears to be stuck after the configuration screens at "updating your device".

About 15 min., but the window of the Application Loader Wizard itself was inactive. Have restarted the process.

Process appears to be "stuck" again at "Read device service information". Had rebooted the Device and restarted the computer prior to loading the OS.

Make sure your USB cable connections are nice and tight and let it do it's thing. Connecting to your device after everything's loaded, like in the screen shot above can take some time.

Also, to answer your earlier question about the BBSAK backup, no, BBSAK only backs up 3rd party apps, not data. However, the AppLoader should do a data backup prior to wiping your device and installing the OS.

Have done a number of different install-attempts, but to no avail. I guess a wiping of the device is the last resort.

Have you wiped the device yet? Maybe this thread will help.

Okay, that thread could help you get connected to DM so you can back up your information. Give it a try. Otherwise, as you said, the wipe might be your last resort.

Tried to connect without battery, but DM, BBSAK and AL did not recognize the device after several attempts. Will pull out the SIM and try some time more. Anyway the java app loader will wipe the device. will keep you posted.
