I am confused. I thought only T-Mobile and AT&T were the only GSM carriers in the US. How does anyone plan to get a Bold working on Sprint? The Bold is only GSM right now

Must be nice to be rich and put a perfectly good phone away to spend what $4 to $500.00 dollars.
Now if your contract is up and there is a deal going on then maybe I could see it.
    - am told that ATT is thinking of charging more for the use of 3G systems. I really do not know if that is true, but I could see them doing something like that and other companies do it also.

    .
    Correct.
A CDMA phone can be reprogrammed & flashed. Both of which are much more laborious & expensive to do in order to use them on another CDMA carrier. And then the programming & re flashing must be done for the specific carrier it's going to be used on. Thus if for sake of conversation, you have a CDMA phone that you wish to try on 2 other carriers besides your current carrier, it must be reprogrammed & re flashed twice. So one can see the distinct advantage of GSM, as there is no reprogramming or flashing required. It's simple, just enter the unlock code once, then insert your sim chip & you're ready to operate on any GSM network in the world. Its why AT&T BlackBerrys work anywhere in the world.

Precisely why I would never consider any carriers that are non GSM.

If you are on Sprint and you lose your phone on the second month of your contract, you have to buy another phone at FULL PRICE.

That hurts. Unfortunately as far as I am concerned, there are only two carriers in the US / Canada

    Premium Serivce

    AT&T / Rogers

    Discount Service

    T-Mobile / Fido

but does ATT owns Tmo the same way Rogers owns Fido ?
and yeah totally agree with the GSM vs CDMA debate altho i WOULD settle for a storm if I didnt like the full keyboard so much

I'm keeping my Pearl (8110). 3G would tempt me to go for a new one though....
