New Bold, New SIM Card - already unlocked??

    Interesting......

I upgraded my BB Curve to a BB Bold about 2 months ago through Amazon. Got a new phone (not a refurb) and a new SIM card to which my telephone number was reassociated.

Just went to check and I note that my phone is unlocked (options / advanced / SIM Card / "Security Disabled" at the top of the screen).

Huh? Took several phone calls and some arguing with AT&T to get my Curve unlocked after I had owned it for a year.

Are Bolds shipped unlocked or am I looking at the wrong thing?

Sorry, you are looking at the wrong screen. In that screen type MEPD (nothing will show as you type) - this will bring up a new screen showing status. My bet is yours will say Network: Enabled (or something similar)

yes @ garyf. The security disabled that you are looking at means that you do not have a password set for your sim card

    Round II:

On that screen - type MPED - shows the following:

    SIM: Disabled
    Network: Active
    Network Subset: Disabled
    Service Provider: Disabled
    Corporate: Disabled
Phone number: xxxxxxxxxxx (Mon No SFR) [with my phone number in place of the x's]

Am I locked to the carrier? I assume "Network: Active" means something, but there is a menu option to enable security on that line (that I am not going to select). Anyone know anything more?

Yes its locked..enable security is to add a PIN to your sim card..it will ask for a PIN anytime you turn the phone on
