If you go to google maps... It tells you how much data you downloaded...

There are ways to minimize your usage,

    1. dont zoom in so far, if your just wanting directions, keep it zoomed out to see your complete trip, and dont scroll around.

    2. if its a long trip, dont keep it on the whole time, it updates as you move, so turn it off if you know where you are going until you need it again. It keeps your last search so you can get back to it easily.

    3. if its a short trip dont turn it off, or you might have to download the data again, once you turn it back on :P

    4. Dont scroll to look around if you can avoid it, type in an address instead, or if you know your city pretty well and can guess where it would be on your currrent zoom level, scroll fast to that area, so it doesnt download everything inbetween where you where and where your going.

It is heavy and I have even locked up my phone a couple of times, when i left it on, during a trip. (ran out of memory) but it does clear itself when you turn it off.

Memory usage, for example, the only thing I did was open the program, and zoom in as far as I could. that used 365KB, then I scrolled up a couple times till it had to reload the map, and total usage came out to be 408KB, then I zoomed out about 4 clicks and over 3 n up 3 and zoomed in 2 times and recentered the map Put in an address and got directions, then zoomed out to see the complete route, total usage came out to be about 1.5mb, I would say thats about an average use, for me, of course I dont play around with it much anymore, just get what I need and thats it.

While in google maps, open your menu, click on help, click on about/info and it will show you how much data you recieved, It also keeps track in the upper right corner as your scroll around the maps.
It takes many professionals versed in many different area's to help the masses, I am just a single drop in that pool.

Using Google Maps yesterday on my 8320, I was up to about 1600K downloaded. I check and my available memory was down to about 3MB. I exited GM, and my memory didn't drop. I "cleared map" before I exited. I waited about 10 min, and memory had not recovered. ALT - R SH - DEL and was back to 17MB available.

    I think you'll be fine.

I'm not familiar with Vodaphone, but ATT offers a way to check data usage online. It's usually delayed a day or two, but gives you a general idea of where you stand.

I get over 200 messages a day and browse the web a decent amount and I don't think I've ever gone past 500MB for a month. I also use Google Maps, but probably about once a week. Doesn't seem to really hurt my data usage all that much.
    As always, just my opinion...

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I'm not a heavy user like I used to be, since govt doesn't allow my phone at work, but I do use google maps a lot. And everytime I use it, it's about 1MB per usage. (I do zoom in and out and move the map around which is constantly downloading and pulling data)
I use around 45megs of my 5GB. Lol. I do need to start using this device more
