I know there was mention of this, but this is a different article with more information. Enjoy

    Rumours of a front-mounted camera

The latest rumour concerning BlackBerry’s forthcoming 9000 3G smartphone is that it will feature a front-mounted camera, allowing it to be used for video calls.

The rumour originates from a Spanish blogger and photographer called Luis Rodriguez, who appears to have had access to a pre-production version of BlackBerry’s new handset.

Quite whether the video call function will generate any more interest in BlackBerry's new model than it does in the myriad of similar 3G, front-camera-sporting phones already on the market remains to be seen though.

If it did have a front facing camera it will most likely have both. But AT&T doesn't support video calling, hence why the N-95 didn't have a lot of use for the front facing camera.

So I wonder if AT&T will pick up video calling, or have a different 9xxx model then other carriers. Do any American carriers support video calling currently?

is it worth it for a phone manufacturer to make 2 versions of the same model such as one without a front facing camera, just because 1 country doesn't support it?

It worth to have two version; yeah its worth it. Because you might like one or the other. Right now a majority of the pinstickers dose not like the touch screen version of the phone; but I think it will be cool.

I don't believe the camera in the front hype.
Just my opinion. Obviously, if RIM were the 1st company to successfully pull off Video Conferencing with voice capabilities over the 3G network, It would be a huge leap forward in technology across the entire industry. I just don't think we are ready for that here in the U.S. yet. 3G is still in its infancy, and Wi-Max is still basically in Alpha testing. Maybe in other countries this will catch on, I just don't think the U.S. is ready for it yet, hence, why I don't believe the hype with a camera in the front.

Of Course, I would LOVE for RIM to prove me wrong, WES is right around the corner, so who knows.

This is also why I don't believe the front cam hype:
This guy knows his stuff. ...

It's not a front facing camera...It's the opening for the convenience key spawned dragons to escape from the device!

I dont think its an issue with the technology because dozens of mobile operators around the world have had video calling as far back as around 3 years ago. And the only place that I thought was behind the states in mobile networks was Canada but even they have video calling now. There has to be another reason why they havent rolled it out yet in the states.

DANG. I just did it, but before I could snap the picture, the invisibility cloak covered it up!
