HowTo: Get All Features (WAP Browser, MMS) Working on T-Mobile USA with Unlocked Bold
I recently purchased an unlocked Bold myself. Unfortunately, I failed to realize that the service books were not pushed down for the Bold by T-Mobile. This was an unacceptable situation for myself (Opera Mini doesn't do it for me), so I made it my mission to get these things working. I am happy to inform you all that it's working brilliantly so far, and I figured I'd let you guys in on the info.
-Unlocked BlackBerry Bold
-T-Mobile USA FULL BlackBerry plan
-Your (or anyone's) old BlackBerry (locked or otherwise) that did have the service books on T-Mobile.
Here's the overview: What you're going to do is put your SIM card back into your old BlackBerry, Register with the Host Routing Network to make sure you get all your servicebooks (email servicebooks are not important). Then, you're going to save them off via the Desktop Manager and then load them on your Bold. If you don't have your old BB, I will try to genercize mine and upload them if I can.
The trick I found is that you cannot save or load these critical service books unless you uninstall the default browser. I came upon this insight and a handly tool here:
Enable BlackBerry Browser without BIS/BES (BlackBerry Without BIS/BES)
Go to the bottom and download the "BlackBerry Remove Tool". You can use some of those screenshots as reference. However, that guide isn't quite the same and you don't get MMS.
So here's a quick walkthrough:
1. Insert SIM into previous BB.
2. Options > Advanced > Houst Routing Table> Register Now
3. Plug in old BB to computer, run the tool above to remove the browser
4. Wait. Open Desktop Manager, Advanced Backup, and backup just the service books.
5. Restore Browser in the tool
6. Grab your BOLD, plug into computer, and use tool to remove browser
7. In Desktop Manager, do advanced restore, and restore only the IPD you just created with the service books
8. Wait. Run tool to restore browser.
9. Options > Advanced > Houst Routing Table> Register Now
10. Log in to mytmobile.com and resend your service books (My email service books would only come down this way.)
You're done! Enjoy MMS, and auto WAP/Wifi browsing, and lots of t-mobile blackberry spam icons!
Sorry this is so abbreviated btw. I just wanted to put this out there sooner than later since I've seen several threads with people struggling with this.
Great Great Great post for T-Mo people!
Also good effort on your side heredia21, Pinstacker style! no taking credits for something thats not yours ! Bravo!
edit: is this Zaventh user on the stacks ? i couldnt find him
Not on stacks though.. The nfo is great! havent tried it out yet. I didnt state the site because I was not sure if advertising other sties was allowed!
Has anyone tried and tested it ou? I do not have old BB to backup service books!
yeah havent tried it either because im with Rogers but im sure you made a lot of people happy altho nobody is reporting anything
JUST TESTED EVERYTHING WORKS 100% ON T-MOBILE. Got mms running, browser works.
holy shiznit it works!!!!!! whats his paypal...i will paypal him 20 bucks!!!!! if he ever does come here
Yes everything works as stated. Best piece of information yet! ha
I just tried this and it didnt work, did it work for anone else
How to Make it work
I had the same problem as you at first didn't work. I have an unlocked Rogers Bold running .167 using it temp on T-mob before I go back overseas.
There is a good thread on CB about this and someone offers an eaiser way to do this that worked for me and even posted the service books for you to copy.
Also learned that the method above will not work if your running vista.
I have Vista. Tested it out about 3 times. It works.
Vista is no longer a problem. Just gotta get Mac figured out now.
I second the style points.
