From 8300 to 9700 Phone Numbers in Contacts

When using Contacts, I categorize. For example: under Restaurants, I list the phone number then give it an ID like Tomaso. In the 8300, when I attempt to dial, this worked fine. Now, with the 9700 the number won't dial through because of the ID. What gives?

Not sure about the 9700 but what I do is associate a specific word to certain contacts that have a basic commonality.....e.g. the word "wind" may be assigned to 10 or 15 different contacts as a suffix and when I do a search using "wind".....that finite list of names will appear for me to choose the one most appropriate. Any information that is associated with a specific contact is included in contact notes. This has worked on the 8300, 8310 and 8900 and should work on virtually any phone.
